Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to indicate the receptive character of philosophical works. Importantly, these works are considered as quasi‑self- help books. The text raises the issues of combining philosophical content with the genological characteristics of a guidebook position, and in this perspective, an exemplary analysis of the ancient philosophical work is presented; namely the Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle — a text in which one may find numerous pieces of advice, constituting a fundamental element of the genre which is a self-help book.
