Summary/Abstract: The following article constitutes an attempt at characterizing the linguistic mechanisms characteristic off historical linguistic polemics and identifying their function in the analyzed texts. The research material is comprised of four historical academic articles (authored by Jan Łoś, Tadeusz Lehr‑ Spławiński, Zenon Klemensiewicz and Stanisław Rospond). The conducted analysis allowed to identify the most commonly used linguistic mechanisms, both when it comes to pragmatics (the sender‑receiver relationship) and stylistics (the ways in which the sender exposes their emotional disposition towards the described phenomena).
