Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the history of relationships between two genres in Polish literature: the serialized novel and reportage published in dailies; weeklies and other magazines. What connects them is the place of first publication – a newspaper page. The author examines the evolution from fiction edited in columns (roman à feuilleton) by the end of the 19th century up to 20th century press reportage. He analyses common techniques; interpenetrations of several writing strategies; and the tension between the factual and the fictional. The key point of this research is that both genres take a very similar place in the structure of a newspaper and have approximately the same functions. Having accepted these conclusions; one may consider contemporary reportage as a sort of continuation of the serialized novel.
