Summary/Abstract: The subject of the consideration is the personal diary as a daily practice of the diarist recording his experiences, thoughts and observations. The author of the journal can be an ordinary person, but also a known, public person. Then the update of the discourse about oneself and its characteristics becomes a more complex process. The question arises as to what idea accompanied the author of the diary, or when creating the text, assumed the possibility of its future publication. In the case of dailies, written with a view to possible publication, the manuscript often shows traces of later corrections or additions by a diarist, who, reading a text written some time ago, corrects or deletes what he currently likes from the perspective of the passage of time. Publishing a journal in the form of a book includes a second author in the process of updating the discourse, who, as an editor, selects the manuscript material and supplements it with footnotes, comments, editorial notes, which as a result causes that a private discourse about oneself becomes highly public
