Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to present Ralph Linton’s scientific biography against the background of the processes that constituted the 20th-century American cultural anthropology. Linton’s archaeological and ethnological career is one of the variants of a model that is generally accepted and appreciated within these disciplines. Focusing on the biography of the culture researcher who was widely influential in the middle of the last century; the author tries to show both the unique character of his decisions and projects; as well as the general theoretical; institutional and methodological framework legitimizing his activity.
