Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the issue of shaping cultural personality in two perspectives - Ralph Linton’s: utilizing achievements in anthropology; sociology and psychology; and Sigmund Freud’s and his psychoanalysis. The aim of the juxtaposition of the two research approaches was to find common points in the research on the shaping of human personality and the relationship between the individual and society and culture. However; in addition to the common points; another important element in describing the achievements of both researchers was the indication of (often very subtle) differences between them; which confirms; in many respects; the groundbreaking nature of their research at the time.
