Summary/Abstract: Foreign language didactics offers students and teachers a wide range of educational materials and aids. The following article attempts to answer the question of the effectiveness of selected didactic aids, both new and those already known for many years. The conclusions presented in this article were based on a survey conducted among 265 English students and 268 students learning second foreign languages, which gave a total of 533 questionnaires. The research results will be used to compare factors influencing the motivation to learn English as well as second foreign languages. Data obtained from the study also allow to analyze the most frequently chosen ways of learning a foreign language. Moreover, the article illustrates the students’ views regarding the selection of both the preferred didactic aids and the ones which they consider useful. The frequency of using them will be shown as well.
