Summary/Abstract: Teaching research skills is fundamental in the academic context. As part of the academic writing curriculum at the B.A. and M.A. levels, the process of researching has been greatly influenced both by the constantly growing role of the IT-based tools and techniques, and by the users’ competences and expectations. The questions arise though: How to teach IT-based research and writing skills in order to educate conscious and critical users? Should we build sensitivity to the dangers of plagiarism even at the secondary level of education? The aim of the paper is to address these questions from the practitioner’s perspective and to build the awareness that academic research skills are life skills, and as such, on the one hand, they require lifelong learning and teaching, but on the other hand, should be incorporated into the syllabi at lower levels of education as skills that are not only necessary in the modern world but also extremely effective on a personal and global level. The author presents the results of the two recently conducted studies by means of the questionnaire and document analysis.
