Summary/Abstract: The basic problem discussed in the text are the changing relations of power and subordination in intimate relationships. The change in socially accepted and legally regulated family relationships, involving the transition from the total power of a man (pater familias) to partnership in relationships, is not a completed process. Despite the acceptance of partnership declared by the majority of society, imbalances remain. Violence and performing unpaid housework are given in the text as the examples of exercising and being subjected to power in modern families. They are also used to analyse subordination, power and resistance strategies, as well as established scripts and slow changes in relationships. In my analysis, I refer to the results of feminist research and theories (including Okin, Connell), as well as to the theory of power of Dahl, Lukes and Bourdieu.
