Summary/Abstract: The article „Why the classics?” — about dangers and perspectives of postmodern literary education is inspired by Hannah Arendt’s conservative thought. Based on John Dewey’s conception, the author is making an attempt at diagnosing the crisis in education. She sees the future of literary education in the Polish language in the anti-pragmatic turnabout towards literary tradition.
