Summary/Abstract: The objective of the article is to present the role of Polish philology regional education in intercultural dialogue, which is directed towards shaping civic community. The authors base the “learning” to acknowledge cultural difference as a positive value on a new understanding of ethnocentrism, as well as the premises of intercultural communication and modern regionalism which is seen as a subdiscipline of contemporary humanities. A valuable help in shaping Polish philology regional education can be found in concepts of contemporary Polish philology didactics which are based on the “methodology” of recipient — a person with a positive attitude towards interaction (the poetics of experience). The need to redefine the unquestioningly cultivated local patriotism is supplemented by the directions of readings of regional culture’s texts on every level of school education. The authors emphasize that in the process of identity formation, which is open to agreement, cooperation and co-being with the ethnic Other, regional education has a special part to play as its first and fundamental stage.
