Some pitfalls in the acquisition of a scholarly habitus

Summary/Abstract: Due to the application of a classification of errors which an academic may commit, as described by Pierre Bourdieu, and the theoretical categories derived from Janusz Goćkowski’s analyses concerning the path “toward the change of one’s attitude in reference to one’s scholarly tradition”, an attempt was made in the article to identify and describe certain pitfalls associated with the acquisition of a scholarly habitus. The structure of the considerations consists of three fundamental, mutually complementary and interpenetrating parts. The first part defines the basic theoretical categories i.e. the concept of the habitus and homo academicus. In the second and the third part these categories are referred to the particular stages of the scholarly path and the pitfalls associated with the acquisition of the scholarly habitus are indicated.
