- Summary/Abstract:Due to the application of a classification of errors which an academic may commit, as described by Pierre Bourdieu, and the theoretical categories derived from Janusz Goćkowski’s analyses concerning the path “toward the change of one’s attitude in reference to one’s scholarly tradition”, an attempt was made in the article to identify and describe certain pitfalls associated with the acquisition of a scholarly habitus. The structure of the considerations consists of three fundamental, mutually complementary and interpenetrating parts. The first part defines the basic theoretical categories i.e. the concept of the habitus and homo academicus. In the second and the third part these categories are referred to the particular stages of the scholarly path and the pitfalls associated with the acquisition of the scholarly habitus are indicated.

- Summary/Abstract:The object of analysis has to do with the following: the essence, the kinds, the functions and the consequences of methodological errors which are committed by scholars who prepare their doctoral or postdoctoral dissertations. Errors may be committed and one may learn from them by drawing appropriate conclusions for the future but one may not fail to realise that such errors are committed due to the lack of work on one’s part, failure to develop one’s own research expertise. Some scholars commit errors purposefully, hoping that the latter might be undetected. The article presents the errors which are committed most frequently in scholarly publications or dissertations written with a view to acquire a scholarly degree, which were revealed in the content of the reviews of such works. The analysis is of a qualitative nature whose purpose is to sensitize young researchers so that in the future they will not experience failures or disappointment due to the evaluation of their creative work.

- Summary/Abstract:The work contains a suggestion that the most frequent reason for the epistemological and methodological errors in paedagogy is its heterogeneity and complexity, as well as the terminological borrowings from natural sciences and other disciplines of social sciences. A number of activities were suggested. When these suggestions will be applied by a researcher, they will make him or her avoid mistakes. These activities include: the correction of the research process, the realization of confirmatory research which verifies subjective distortions; an analysis of concepts whose purpose is to introduce consistency in the use of these concepts; there is also a description of the ways of avoiding the errors of ecologism, individualism and reductionism; the text also presents the implications of the formulation of the research problem and it describes the ways of selecting samples as a critical stage of the research process. The work concludes with reflections about the excessive credibility lent to the results of survey-based research.

- Summary/Abstract:The purpose of the article is to convince young researchers that the legitimacy of the methodological rules and recommendations may be evaluated only in the context of the purpose of the research which is conducted and the premises which constitute such research. An exemplification of this general problem is the role of hypotheses in empirical research, both in qualitative and qualitative research. At the starting point the author distinguishes the hypotheses from the premises, for they perform different roles in the research process. These premises are accepted and they constitute the nature of the object under study and the manner in which it is studied, whereas the hypotheses are subject to empirical scrutiny. The author indicates the ambiguities of the hypotheses: on the one hand, by channelling cognition, these hypotheses limit cognition (the female and male researchers focus only on the thing that is stipulated by the hypotheses), they impose an idea about reality upon reality itself. The idea is subject to scrutiny. On the other hand, the hypotheses are an expression of the realization f the preliminary knowledge of the female and male researchers, which is particularly important in qualitative research because uncontrolled knowledge affects uncontrollably the process of the interpretation of empirical research. The function of hypotheses which is rarely discerned is to indicate the problem which is supposed to be solved. If the given instance of cognition changes the initial hypotheses, it means that a thing which heretofore was unfamiliar was revealed.

- Summary/Abstract:The text that is presented constitutes an analysis of the research process from the perspective of one of its phases, the phase of interpretation. Interpretation is construed as the imparting of theoretical meanings to the results of analysis and it constitutes a complementary part of a scholarly explanation. The narration demonstrates the dependencies between the phases of the research process. It indicates not only the correlation of interpretation with the remaining phases but also the interrelationship between all phases. On the one hand, this analysis questions the attempts at embracing a linear approach to the research process in social sciences but on the other hand it demonstrates the extent to which the success of interpretations depends on the decisions that are made before such an interpretation is presented.

- Summary/Abstract:The purpose of the problematization of the eponymous theme is to present various levels of complexity of the problem of the irreducibility of theory and practice, construed in a source-based fashion in terms of the categories of specific modi of existential attitudes and the associated experiences which are structured in a temporal-spatial manner. However, this problem de facto implies the problem of the necessity of transcending the limits of the autotelicity of the orders of theory and practice, with the simultaneous awareness and the recognition of the separateness of these orders in the field of human activities and their products. It is also in this context that I distinguish specific properties of theoretical attitudes (methodological confusion/sharing attention and the rationality of receding and restraint) and practical attitudes (the methodological narrowing down of the concentration of attention to the thing which is and the rationality of participation and engagement). Then I problematize the theme of the conjunction and disjunction of paedagogical theory and practice. The analyses that are conducted in this way and the ways of argumentation that are worked out in this context constitute a basis for the emphasis of seven fundamental epistemological and methodological reductionisms of research attitudes.

- Summary/Abstract:The main question of the text relates to the meaning of selected practices, connected with the corporate image of science (expertivity, formalization, bureaucracy, parameterization, productivity) and its consequences for the quality of conducting research as well as its reliability. The category of reliability was treated as a cultural factor that is associated with the sense of the activities that are undertaken and it was confronted with the institutional rules of their assessment (rankings, control and evaluation procedures) approved by the “corporation of science”. The ethical problems associated with the cognitional perspectives which are derived from this confrontation were illustrated as well. Moreover, the methodological references – inhibition and tolerantism – connected with popularization of the the institutional syndrome of corporate correctness are discussed.

- Summary/Abstract:The text id devoted to a description of the specificity of action research as a strategy of qualitative research involved in social and educational practice and researcorrequired by social practice. Given the multiplicity of the concepts of studies and the attractiveness of the name – action researche – attention id devoted to the risks and pitfalls encountered by researchers who decide to use this strategy. The manifestations of simplification, such as “pseudo-research” and the sources of these simplifications are described. - Summary/Abstract:The starting point is the thesis that the use of various scientific theories, concepts, reflections in a research process is a natural consequence of the problem that is explored. A lack of awareness of their dissimilar paradigmatic assumptions constitutes the main relevance-related trap as regards the choice of these concepts. Incommensurability may also concern the methods (techniques and tools) of data collection and analysis that are applied. Therefore, complex research projects are particularly at risk of this trap, as well as the methods within which many research techniques and tools are used. The purpose of the article is to indicate certain pitfalls associated with the inconsiderate combinations of paradigms within one research concept, which is illustrated by the creation of eclectic worlds of people with disability.
