Summary/Abstract: As a bishop of Poznań (1399–1412) Wojciech Jastrzębiec distinguished himself in the organization of new structures in the Mazovian part of the diocese which theretofore constituted the archdeaconry of Czersk. He regulated the question of the establishment of a St John the Baptist church in Warsaw in the theretofore parish church and the establishment of a collegiate chapter, with prelates and canons, by means of the foundation of prince Janusz I. Warsaw became a leading church centre of southern Mazowsze, at the same time performing the function of a new capital of the Czersk‑Warsaw dukedom. The bishop also brought about the erection of a number of new parishes there, in order to meet the growing ministry‑related requirements.
