Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the issue of purist tendencies in contemporary Bulgarian, Polish and Greek on the example of the EU terminology. Purism is considered a part of the dispute over the linguistic‑cultural identity of speech communities. Basic concepts regarding the essence of purism are reviewed. The author discusses the situation of the terminology and the manifestations of purism in Bulgarian, Polish and Greek linguistic traditions. The contrastive study proves the thesis that the preference for calques (loan translations) and using existing forms with new meanings (neosemantisation) are acts of linguistic purism in the term formation.
