Summary/Abstract: In the article the situation of the market of journals for youth after 1989 will be analyzed, periodicals published before and after system transformation will be compared. The traditional (1945-1989) division of journals for children and young people will be reminded, and new ideas of modern investigators will be presented. Subsequently will be elaborated: nature and characteristics of currently published journals, their content, publishers and readership of such press type. The aim of the article will be also determination of potential expectations of the young recipients according to journals from such group, and answer to the question: how well do periodicals perform their educational functions?
