Summary/Abstract: The article observes the presence of vampirism in the 19th c. Serbian literature through the analysis of Milovan Glišić’s story After Ninety Years (1880), crucial for its development. The author claims that in his depiction of the most famous Serbian vampire – Sava Savanović – Glišić refers to folk legends and fairy tales, yet replaces the religious or rationalist narrative perspective with a social one. Further analysis observes the differences between the Serbian literary vampire and its Western European version.
