He introduced into the Lithuanian story a European city atmosphere and new places of action. From differing notions, images and cultural reminiscences Jurgis Savickis has created the multi-layered stylistics if his nouvelle work. Because of his modernity and originality Savickis was strongly criticized and considered as a dangerous modernist and decadent. Literary critics have attempted to classify his stories as impressionistic or expressionistic but none of these terms describe it adequately.
