Summary/Abstract: The Human Development Index is the main indicator that measures the quality of life of the population over the past 30 years. To some extent, this is the most objective way to track the welfare of people in the world. Following all the trends, the human development index can most clearly be examined by analyzing two types of data: global quantitative data, available in the global statistics on the status of the four indicators and the three indices; and quality data, which are the actual result of the study. The main objectives of this research relate briefly to the historical development of the idea of human sustainable development, the methodology and methods of HDI calculation, as well as conducting a chronological regional analysis of the human development index in Bulgaria according to the available data (1990-2018), focusing on its current state.
