It is stated that these standards apply to the process management in an organization and not to its products. Definitions of "certification", "registration" and "accreditation" are provided – similarities and differences between them are indicated as well as the opportunity for the standards ISO, ISO 9001: 2000 and ISO 14001: 2004 to be implemented and used without being certified. A special place in the research is dedicated to the goals of quality assurance standards by establishing a management system in such a way to ensure the required quality level. The essence of the ISO 9000: 2000 and ISO 9001: 2000 standards is also reviewed.
