Summary/Abstract: The paper expresses a point of view about the liaison (never dangerous!) between the history of translation and the axiological theory about the formation of aesthetic canons via translation. One of the activities carried out by the Coppet Group, whose spokesperson has been Mme de Staël, is translation, cultivated in order to demonstrate the need to conceive literature differently. In their effort to connect the literary and aesthetic movements of Western Europe (the budding Romanticism), the members of the Coppet Group back up their writings with translations.
