Summary/Abstract: This article concentrates on literary translation and intends to offer a brief outline of the strategies of cultural transport used in the translation of the hugolien novel Notre-Dame-de-Paris within the Romanian space. The methodology employed consists of comparing the source text with some Romanian versions, approaching the problems of translation raised by certain sequences (non-existent cultural entities in the Romanian culture, terms which relate to sociopolitical organization, the name of holidays, public services, proper nouns, verbal expressions). From the very first page of the novel, the Romanian translators are faced with several problems because of the cultural elements contained in the text. To draw a successful correspondence between sociocultural connotations, the Romanian translators have to possess language and linguistic skills and they must master the use of the right translation strategies.
