Summary/Abstract: This study reflects the author's concerns regarding translation techniques and strategies emerging from translation ethics which, according to Antoine Berman, consists of preserving the foreign character of the original text. This preoccupation materialized in a comparative study of the Lebanese writer of French expression Amin Maalouf’s novel "Le Périple de Baldassare" and its Romanian translation by Ileana Cantuniari. The theoretical references concerning translation as comprehension of identity, culture and thought will be applied in the analysis of the translation strategies and problems posed by the original text.
