Summary/Abstract: Throughout history, large numbers of people around the world have suffered dislocation as a result of persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations or any event disrupting the general public order. Some of these people have been internally displaced,1 and some have been forced to cross borders. In most instances, while some very small numbers eventually have been able to reach an industrialized Western state, the overwhelming majority have resettled in neighbouring countries. Besides, substantial numbers of displaced people have been housed in refugee camps.
