Summary/Abstract: Gender equality is a fundamental value of the European Union (EU). TheEU Member States pledged to prohibit discrimination based on sex or sexualorientation and ensure equality between women and men in all areas byaccepting the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. In itsGender Equality Strategy 2020-2025, the European Commission declaresthat “the promotion of equality between women and men is a task for theUnion, in all its activities, required by the Treaties”1. The EU also pledged toensure a secure environment for everyone, no matter what their racial orethnic origin, religion, belief, gender, age or, sexual orientation is.
