Summary/Abstract: The turbulent political developments of recent months in Ukraine placed a number of important questions before statesmen, politicians and experts. How do Ukrainian citizens assess the political situation? What is their idea of a renewed government? How much do the present authorities correspond to criteria defined by the people? Will the population resort to protest actions should the situation not improve? How will Ukrainians vote at the referendum? In order to obtain the answers to these questions, large-scale polls of the adult population in all regions of Ukraine were conducted by the UCEPS sociological service between the January 25 and February 5, 2000. We came to the conclusion that Ukraine’s citizens maintain a rather demanding attitude toward the authorities.
