Summary/Abstract: At the eighth Japanese development conference on Africa (TICAD-8), held on 27-28 August in the Tunisian capital, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida promised to spend $30 billion over the next three years on development programmes in Africa. Japan uses this initiative to counter the activity of Russia and China on the African continent, promoting a development model linked to an order based on law and multilateralism.
