Summary/Abstract: The unusually favorable political constellation between the two Korean states and the welcoming gestures from the administration of President D. Trump open up an opportunity to revive the Czech agenda in North Korea. The Czech Republic is a country with a long-standing tradition of bilateral contacts between the former Czechoslovakia and the DPRK from the time of the existence of the Eastern Bloc. The Czech Republic was able to quickly build an above-standard level of relations with South Korea (DPRK) after 1989, when this country became one of the Czech Republic's important economic partners. The level of Czech relations with the DPRK is currently very limited, limited by the economic situation of the partner country, international political and security complications, the human rights situation and the low level of bilateral political contacts. How should Prague respond to the DPRK's welcoming gestures towards the DPRK, also with regard to the broader geopolitical context? Should we disinterestedly observe the situation from a distance, or choose a proactive policy and try to realize our own interests? The text considers alternative approaches for the Czech Republic in three variants: in the form of inactive waiting, a proactive scenario, and a cautiously proactive scenario.
