Summary/Abstract: In the Eastern Mediterranean, the U.S. pursues its goals in the areas of energy and security through cooperation with Greece, Israel, and Cyprus. Challenging the U.S. goals is competition from Russia, Iran, and China, while strained relations with Turkey have become problematic. To neutralise these obstacles, the U.S. may seek to increase the involvement of non-regional NATO members on the Alliance’s Southern Flank. Together with the EU, they can also take action to reduce Russia’s influence in regional energy matters.
