Summary/Abstract: The government of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has brought changes to the country’s foreign policy since taking power in January. The most important was prioritising relations with the United States, seen by the current government as an essential partner for Brazil’s economic development and strengthening its international position. The Brazilian authorities are motivated mainly by a conviction of ideological proximity with Donald Trump’s administration, so a continued pro-U.S. direction in Brazilian policy is not certain. This approach will also be challenged by Brazil’s relations with other close partners, especially China.
