Summary/Abstract: The Slovak government, as a result of a wave of criticism after the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée, has strengthened its pro-European rhetoric. New Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini declared Slovakia’s readiness to increase payments to the EU budget. He also agrees to tie the possibility of acquiring EU funds to adherence to the rule of law. At the same time, he presents an idea to link access to the EU budget with the provisions of the Stability and Growth Pact, which could give the Visegrad Group the opportunity to take the initiative in the debate on the future of the EU, especially in the context of the next budget, the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021–2027.
