Summary/Abstract: Counter-corruption action and the situation in Venezuela were the main topics at this year’s Summit of the Americas. The meeting was also an opportunity for the United States to demonstrate its wish to enhance its status as the main partner for Latin American countries. These efforts have been limited by the lack of coherence in the Latin American policy of President Donald Trump’s Administration, which has facilitated China’s rising influence in the region. Chinese expansion is also a challenge for the European Union, which would like to cooperate more closely with Latin American partners.
