Summary/Abstract: An agreement between Blue and White leader Benjamin Gantz and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu enabled the establishment of a unity government on 17 May. Gantz justified going back on earlier promises not to cooperate with the indicted PM with the need to focus on the COVID-19 pandemic. His decision has weakened the parliamentary opposition and stabilised Netanyahu’s premiership. It will also help ease political tensions, for example, regarding judicial reforms. It is possible that the new government will initiate the annexation of Jewish settlements in the West Bank, a move deemed illegal internationally.
