Summary/Abstract: The policy of the United Kingdom government regarding the threat of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) initially focused on protecting the economy and shortening the course of the pandemic in Britain at the price of a high spread rate. By mid-March, however, there was a fundamental revision of the strategy and the introduction of obligatory social distancing. It resulted from the risk of overwhelming the National Health Service (NHS). In late March, members of the government also became infected. The election of a new Labour Party leader, the scale of the pandemic, and high mortality rate from coronavirus infections herald a dispute over the strategy and future economic policy.
