Summary/Abstract: Sebastian Kurz’s second coalition government strengthens Austria’s cooperation with the United States. This is to be supported by, among other, things, President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Israel and Palestine, and Austria and the United States’ similar approaches to migration. Austria is primarily interested in maintaining favourable economic conditions in bilateral trade relations, which is threatened by U.S. trade protectionism, and currently also by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite Austria’s involvement in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 (NS2) gas pipeline, Kurz’s government may, with the support of the U.S. and in line with the assumptions of the Three Seas Initiative, contribute to the diversification of gas supplies in Central Europe.
