Historia Slavorum Occidentis

Historia Slavorum Occidentis

Frequency: 4 issues / Country: Poland

Originally, the individuals who are behind establishing the new journal thought of a publication revolving around the history of Poland and the Czech Republic. The formula will be extended though, not only to the other Western Slavs (Slovakians, Lusatian Serbs) as well as the areas occupied by Lithuania, Western Ukraine, Hungary, Austria and Germany where back in the 19th century, emphasis was placed on Central European issues.

The journal has many goals, among them demonstrating how much in common the nations and states of Central Europe have and that their history was accompanied not only by wars but also peaceful coexistence, exchange of thoughts, ideas, to some extent a shared economic history. While today multi-culture is an extremely fashionable notion, there is hardly any other region in Europe whose history would have an equally “multi-cultural” background. It is worth reminding, writing and discussing; myth and stereotypes should be debunked andbridges of agreement built.

The role of the Historia SlavorumnOccidentis journal is to serve as a platform for discussions of Central Europe, presenting the research results, inspiring and setting new directions. We will show interest in original works presenting the history of the region, the relations between the local political entities, contacts with the neighbours as well as an entire range of social, economic and cultural issues together with historiographical issues as discussed by historians, archaeologists, art and culture historians. This will be topped with suggested interdisciplinary approaches, without chronological limitations. The journal is open to reviews, discussions and reports as well as disputes and discussions. At the same time our intention is to provide information about planned conferences, conventions, exhibitions and other scholarly events on Central Europe.
