The publication contains biographies of officials from the central institutions of the Kingdom of Poland and local administration at the level of the governorate. It is a collection of data about 9,000 people. Individual entries include: surname and first name (variants), dates of life, education, official achievements (positions, court, civil, and military rank, orders, medals, periods of employment, salary, religion, marital status) and the bibliography. This is the first publication in Polish historiography gathering such a large number of data about people from a clerical environment important for the social structure.

The prevailing financial or euro crisis is a reflection of inadequate fiscal policies in combination with a lack of competitiveness in several member countries of the eurozone. Whatever its causes, however, it has exposed fundamental weaknesses in the design of EMU as well as insufficient implementation of the rules governing the euro area. After all, EMU stands for Economic and Monetary Union. These deficiencies had been signalled earlier in the 1990s, but they have been ignored since then by many politicians and financial markets as well. At this moment, it is still unclear whether the euro-area members are able and willing to resolve this crisis by taking the necessary and far-reaching decisions towards a much higher degree of integration. Such moves would go beyond a ’fiscal union’ and would necessarily cover essential elements of macroeconomic policies as well.

In my paper I focus on presenting the American crisis on the example of theseries Fargo. The Coen brothers show different heroes in the role of contemporary Sisyphus. Drawing on the philosophy of Sartre and Kierkegaard, they analyzethe existential condition of their characters and expose the American dream. They entangle the characters into economic, emotional and living crises in orderto expose the illusion of emancipation in capitalism.

I intended to write a book in good faith. I always said what I believed to be the truth, even when I knew she would upset my dear friends; I have tried to judge without injustice the men who are most hateful to me. As for the serene indifference that a certain school claims to claim from historians, I do not believe it and I have never encountered it. Between executioners and martyrs, between tyrants and victims, it is not possible for me to remain neutral; I hate oppression in all its forms, I believe in the triumph of justice, and that is why the cause of Bohemia is dear to me. If she succumbs, which seems impossible to me, the share of inequity, already so great in the world, would be increased. // I did not cover up any of the mistakes of the Czech patriots; I still believe they wrote one of the most beautiful pages in human history. When the day comes when the nations, disillusioned with dreams of false glory, understand that the common interest requires respect for all freedoms, when enlightened consciences have broken the altars of false gods, we will place in the first row of evocative of the new world the Dobrovsky, the Havlíček and the Palacký. They taught us the power of law and the power of dedication; to triumph over the belated hatreds which persist in contesting a victory which is now certain, the Czechs have only to draw inspiration from their lessons. For me, I am convinced that by spreading their names and their doctrines, I will have contributed to uplift the souls of all who will read me and to free them from the prejudices of hatred and pride.

The chapter revises the foundations of Kant’s transcendental principle of public law. It formulates the following critical argument against the most controversial component of this principle, i.e. coercion: if the Doctrine of Law is to remain an integral part of the Metaphysics of Morals, neither reciprocal nor universalized real coercion can be justified by transcendental practical reason. A public legal order can be legitimised if and only if it meets three transcendental prerequisites discussed in the chapter. Simultaneously, the “hybrid” composition of Kant’s concept of law (deliberately) allows nontranscendental components. Can the transcendental legal theory be effectively protected as governing the way in which the law is made, or it rather ends up as a „transcendental nonsense”?

The Arctic identity is most widely studied in relation with Indigeneity, which is often seen as being threatened by globalization processes. In this paper, the Arctic identity of Sakha (Yakutia) is explored from the regionbuilding perspective, using a constructivist approach to reveal the principal factors that have shaped it. In this regard, my interest is the role of actors of Arctic identity. I argue that the development of Arctic identity has been largely influenced by, though not limited to, the globalization process.

After the beginning of the last economic and financial crisis that started in the period 2007-2008 and is continuing to affect the global and the EU financial markets, the European Union has initiated series of regulatory reforms in order to overcome the effects of the crisis and to attempt to prevent future similar crisis. One of these reforms is the establishment of the Banking Union predominantly in the Euro area. The establishment of the Banking Union has many advantages and perspectives in relation to the EU integration process in the banking area. It aims to foster the stability in the EU banking system, to restore the investor and the consumer confidence that were weakened by the recent crisis, to complete the EU rules that were adopted and implemented so far for the performing of banking services within the Union. However, the project for reforms through creation of a Banking Union is not without some serious challenges. Some of the most important challenges are related to the scope of the new reform as the Banking Union will not cover all the EU Member States which may jeopardise the smooth functioning of the EU Single Market on banking services. Other challenges are the timing, the legal and institutional framework. Last but not least, the Banking Union will soon face the challenge to become not only "too big to fail" but also "too dangerous to fail". Notwithstanding the fact that it is not expected Bulgaria to join soon the Banking Union by joining the Euro area or through the so called "close cooperation", the creation of the Banking Union will also have an influence on it.

The phenomenon of singing morning and evening prayers is inscribed into theProtestant tradition. The section of songs assigned to day-time appeared for the first time ina German-speaking song book of Czech brothers published in 1531 by Michael Weisse.From that time he was given a special place in subsequent cantionals and Protestant songbooks. The oldest morning and evening songs, likewise the ones connected with the calendarand church festivals, were maintained in a hymn style, but gained a more sophisticatedform with time. Despite the fact that they were played during church services, their mainpurpose was a private prayer at home. Performing a function of a private prayer, the verysongs became more sensitive to the influence of a folk performing style and diverged fromcanonic versions adjusting to the records in song books and chorale books. Thus, theyshould be perceived as a repertoire shaped and modified by an oral tradition to a greater extentthan for example songs connected with a church calendar. Meanwhile, the 19th and20th century chronicles, memoires, and works published in Cieszyn Silesia contain little informationon a daily singing at home. The lack of the research material on the performingpractice of the Evangelic song, strongly evident especially in the light of dynamically developingstudies in Scandinavian and Baltic countries, gave rise to the need of conducting terrainobservations, the aim of which was just a registration of traditional, old songs, includingmorning and evening ones.In the course of research as many as 130 songs, morning and evening prayers, out of500 registered altogether, were recorded. The biggest collection of texts involving 68 items,created for the purposes of performing them during morning prayers (37 songs) and eveningprayers (31 songs) contains a cantional by Jerzy Heczko. A comparison allows for makinga statement that Heczko took many of these texts from the subsequent editions of theCzech cantional by Jerzy Trzanowski.

The town of Oświęcim (German: Auschwitz) is invariably associated with the concentration and extermination camp that operated in its vicinity in the years 1940–1945. For many people, it comes as a surprise that during the war, in the shadow of the camp, a small garrison town functioned quite normally. It was an unusual town, considering that its original inhabitants – Poles and Jews – had been displaced, and the army that was stationed here was the SS garrison from KL Auschwitz. This paper aims to present the mutual relations between the civilian population (the remaining Poles, the settlers from the Reich, and the Volksdeutsche) and the SS men. How did they interact with each other? What restrictions and rules applied to their mutual relations? Why were the SS men not allowed to visit certain establishments? And why did the commandants devote so much attention in their orders to women? I have tried to find answers to the above-mentioned questions (and many more) in this paper. As my source base, I have predominantly used the orders of the commandant’s office (Kommandanturbefehle), the orders of the garrison commander (Standortbefehle), and the statements of civilians and former prisoners of the Auschwitz camp, all of which can be found in the Archives of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim.

The work discusses the evolution of the perception of the constituent elements of matter, from ancient times to the present day. The study presents not only historical data on the understanding, interpretation and description of individual elements of matter, but also includes a description of the historical background, including a brief description of individual researchers and facts related to their life and activity. The paper discusses the progress of science related directly to changes in the understanding of the structure and composition of matter. This aspect is particularly important from a didactic point of view, since the history of the development of atomic theory underlies the history of chemistry as a field. Thus, the presented monograph meets the needs of contemporary Polish scientific literature. The publication is addressed to research workers and students of the departments of chemistry, pharmacy, physics and history.

This book examines the changes to priestly identity within Czech Catholicism in the 19th and 20th centuries on the example of three Catholic priests (Emanuel Masák, Antonín Ludvík Stříž, Dominik Pecka). The changing identity of priests in the modern age is a relevant theme in historical science and at the same time is the turbulent story of a social profession which still undoubtedly enjoyed social prestige during the mid-19th century, but which with the passing of time became a target of criticism as a symbol of backwardness for some, while for others it was a symbol of eternal order, legitimate authority, authentic service, or even martyrdom. Even in the 20th century, priestly identity continued to contain its sacral, spiritual and even overtly mystical content. As is suggested by the title, it is this which the author focuses on very thoroughly.

The Brno Quality of Life Longitudinal Study of Paediatric Oncology Patients (QOLOP, N = 225) is a prospective longitudinal study of the quality of life of children and adolescents after treatment of pediatric cancer, which was started in 2006. This paper summarizes the main results of the second stage of this study. Three studies that dealt with longitudinal trends in quality of life, changes in the level of depressive symptoms and predictors of posttraumatic stress and posttraumatic growth, showed that more important than objective medical data (type of diagnosis, severity of late effects) are personality characteristics (negative emotionality) and parenting factors, i.e. factors that are not primarily related to the disease and can be suitably influenced.
