The paper deals with the Jesuit church and college in Ostróg erected from the foundation of Anna Alojza Chodkiewiczowa in the years of 1629-1653. It analyses the earlier projects of this building, together with those that are presented for the first time here. They are stored in the collections of the Paris National Library and the Getty Research Institute, as well as the sources from the Archivum Romanum Societatis Jesu. In the light of the iconographic sources and archives, the chronology of the Ostróg complex has been made precise, above all some proposals as to its authorship have been put forward. The Jesuit church and college in Ostróg were a “common work” of two religious architects: Giacomo Briano and Benedetto Mollego. Contrary to what we have learnt so far from literature, it was Briano who considerably contributed to the preparation of the project. His participation in the temple’s project was almost dominating, and the role of Molle might be defined as supervising the course of construction. The work can be described as a creation of clearly north Italian stylistic references, typical of Giacomo Briano from Modena. This artist continued the work of the artists from the last quarter of the fourteenth century, mainly Pellegrino Tibaldi.

“Kill the Wanderer” is a documentary investigation into one of the most emblematic crimes of the Cold War – the murder of the Bulgarian dissident writer, Georgi Markov, in London in 1978. Throughout the whole world this case acquired infamy as the “Bulgarian umbrella” murder. The assassination became an emblematic example of “wet operations” involving the secret services of the former Eastern Bloc. It recently became the subject of commentary in the media throughout the world after the death of the former Russian intelligence officer from the Federal Security Service and political émigré, Alexander Litvinenko at the end of 2006 in London, due to many of the similarities between the two cases. Although 29 years have passed since the murder and Scotland Yard still has not discovered the perpetrator, the leading opinion in the West is that the murder of the Bulgarian dissident was carried out by the Bulgarian Security Services on the orders of the then head of state in Bulgaria, Todor Zhivkov, with the assistance of the KGB. “Kill the Wanderer” for the first time calls upon specific archive materials to confirm this thesis. Hristo Hristov (1967) is one of the best investigative journalists in Bulgaria and has researched the crimes of the communist regime. He has published documentary books on the murders in the communist camps in Bulgaria (1944–1962) and on the kidnapping of the Bulgarian émigré, Boris Arsov by the Bulgarian State Security Services from Denmark in 1974. Work on the “Kill the Wanderer” took him six years (1999–2005) and as a court reporter he has reported on the Markov murder case since 1991. His book is based on a number of documents hitherto unknown, many of which are from the secret archives of the former State Security Services.

The Papal Eastern Seminary in Dubno provides education for young men wanting to devote themselves to the clerical state. The author refers to the sources rarely quoted so far, or completely unused, and on their basis outlines the genesis of the University and shows its patrons-almoners. The documents unknown until today comprise among others: a seminarist periodical “Charitas” (later Caritas ), and “Druh-Другъ-Amicus” issued in Dubno. Other sources previously unused are two further periodicals: “Miesięcznik Pasterski Łucki” (“Monthly Pastoral of Lutsk”, 1926-1939) and “Oriens”, a bimonthly devoted to the religious affairs of the East, published in the years 1933-1939. Perusal of seminarist, diocesal and thematically profiled periodicals, journals and documents from the Archives of New Records in Warsaw allows us not only to verify specific knowledge, but also to broaden our horizons by learning about new important facts, issues and areas.

The Styria archive of Styria applies to efficient, close-to-citizen and best-equipped service in the country. In all parts of the administration, rigorous measures of savings have been deployed, the Archive has managed to significantly increase the number of staff members in the past years. Official sites are relatively fast filled up. In addition, the administration of the Archive has always come to the open ear (to understand) at the senior services and responsible politicians. Since 1981, about 300 million silts (ATS) have been separated from the building. Particular attention is paid to the special contribution of the Workers Archive in recent years. Thus, thanks to their own efforts in the Archives, the relocation costs, estimated at around 6 million ATS, were reduced to 2.5 million ATS. As part of the relocation of the Archives Archive, one is attached to one of Styria, a very important institution. Thus, the overburdened books from the 33 municipal court were taken over, leading to the fact that people who had little to do with the archive were passing through the archives daily. The fact is that in the future, apart from the preservation and securing of materials, one of the main tasks of the Archive will be public work, through consultation and monitoring of professional and scientific research papers, either by answering an increased number of requests in writing or through archives or Lectures in and out of the Archive.

The archivistic catalogue represents a complex paper and at the same time an informational tool that allows a well-defined systematization of the funds and collections which are a component part of the archive, facilitating the access to the documents as well as their use within ulterior researches. Along with the other informational tools, the archivistic catalogue aims to be a good starting point for using the archives, its modality of constitution meeting both the exigencies of the researchers as well as the interests of the large public. Adopting an unitary work system through the careful study of the documents and the selection of the pieces of information included is meant to guarantee the accuracy of the archivistic catalogue and to emphasize the scientific value of such a work.

The authoress describes the course of relocation of book collections gathered by writers to public library archives using the example of four such collections that made their way to the Pomeranian Library in Szczecin, whose previous owners were: Stefan Flukowski, Zbigniew Herbert, Ludmiła Marjańska and Andrzej Kuśniewicz. The intent of the writers or their heirs was finding a proper place for each particular collection in order to ensure its preservation and further use. The librarians responsible for establishing public collections hoped that the books would be accompanied by manuscripts, personal mail or other keepsakes; or, should that not be the case − that they would bear dedications, autographs, handwritten notes or other signs of the writers’ use. The author analyses the contents of these four donations with regard to the aspects mentioned above.

The article focuses on a particular episode in Teodor Parnicki’s biography in an attempt to establish the date of the writer’s Catholic baptism. Despite a large number of various texts on the topic (in the form of interviews, private letters, fragments of novels), this date remains unknown. The writer was obsessed with ascertaining dates, but he did not reveal this one. The article therefore becomes a description of Parnicki’s autobiographical and literary strategy. Like the protagonists of his novel, Parnicki used the strategy of “subtracting from the truth”, which itself is very interesting.

The review made by professor Emanuel Plopeanu presents the titled volume ”Plans and prospects of Hârșova Fortress in Foreign Archives” sign by Aurel-Daniel Stănică, Constantin Nicolae and Mihai Anatolii Ciobanu. The work has a special structure, coming from the authors’ desire to provide as many explanations as possible related to the context of the cartographic sources and the constructive details provided by them. The book is structured in two parts: first part - Hârșova during the Ottoman administration (p. 10-15) - presents a history of the settlement and its importance - and the second part - The Ottoman Citadel, documentary information and archaeological data.

The present text is part of a more complex research on Romania’s participation in the New York World’s Fair (1939–1940). The main objective of this research is to reconstruct the representation of Romania’s national identity at a certain point in time (1939), classifying it as one element in a series of this kind. We will also concentrate on how this representation was perceived by the public opinion of the 1930s. As such, it is not only research on cultural history and public diplomacy (external propaganda, as it was called at the time), but also on bilateral Romanian-American relations (economy, politics etc.). Last but not least, it also represents a study in imagology. This paper, the first of a series, aimed at reconstructing some of the events related to the preparations led by the officials in Bucharest charged with the country’s participation in the New York World’s Fair, for the construction of the pavilion known as the Romanian House, designed by the architect Octav Doicescu and erected for this occasion. I have brought forth information referring to the evolution of the works done at this pavilion and the difficulties encountered throughout the process, such as: changes made to the architectural design, the relation between the entrepreneurs and workers, the transportation of construction materials from overseas, the exhibitions, the negotiations for appointment of the restaurant’s manager etc. All this took place between May 1938 and April 1939. Our sources are to be found at the National Historical Archives (Saint-George’s fund and Ministry for Commerce and Industry fund) and at the Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Washington fund). To those sources we have added published documents from different public libraries and on-line archives (http://www.cooperativag.ro/, http://octavdoicescu.blogspot.com/ etc.) and details brought forth by specialised literature from 1997–2018 (articles /studies on the subject by Daniel Bogdea, Nicolae Dascălu (Nicolae Ureche), Narcisa Mitu, Raluca Preotu, Zoltan Rostas, Ileana Stanca-Desa, Claudiu-Alexandru Vitanos, Laurențiu Vlad etc.).

The legal-administrative (official) style occupies a central place among the functional styles of the Romanian literary language, being considered as one of the oldest of them, thanks to the recorded texts, which are subscribed to it, the beginning stage being signalled with the appearance of the first codices in Romanian. Concern of many researchers, linguists and historians alike, found in all the classifications of the functional styles of the Romanian language, the legal-administrative style has offered, over time, a rich and interesting study material from different points of view, the stylistic particularities that have the attention was retained being used in reference works. Since in our doctoral research approach we intend to achieve it from a linguistic perspective an analysis of the language used in the official documents of historical Bukovina, after its union with Romania, we will present in this article a preliminary monographic approach to the administrative style upon the whole, with examples extracts from the archive background.

In order to know the literary language used in the legal-administrative texts of an epoch, it is necessary to study the facts of language, of the various acts that through their content can bring concrete testimonies in connection with certain mutations or deviations from the norm. In this context, it is necessary to capitalize on official documents with the intention of establishing a place for them in the vast process of development and improvement of linguistic norms within a style and, by extension, within the literary language. We chose for analysis a qualitatively representative corpus (diversity of types of documents analyzed) consisting of correspondence from the prefectures of Southern Bukovina, which are in conservation at the Suceava County Service of the National Archives.

Archiválie tohoto typu nelze předkládat badatelům ke studiu a je tedy třeba informace v nich obsažené zprostředkovat veřejnosti jiným způsobem – kvalitní reprodukcí. V rámci řešeného projektu bylo naší snahou předložit pracovníkům paměťových institucí komplexní materiál, který by řešil problematiku dlouhodobého uložení a zpřístupnění skleněných negativů, a proto jsme se pokusili…
