My text is an attempt to characterize artisanship in Romania following a field research conducted in 2005 within five folk fairs set up by the Museum of Peasants and the Village Museum (Bucharest), the Museum of Villages in Banat (Timisoara), the Astra Museum (Sibiu), and the Museum Complex of Suceava and Bucovine (Suceava).

Although they do not lead to radical changes in publicity, phenomena like blogs and personal homepages have the potential to stimulate the renegotiation of existing relationships between society and the internet. A number of new questions appear. What are the effects of the hybridization of the public and private spheres in cyberspace? How does the Internet, characterized by non-hierarchical communication, gradually sprout new, non-standard forms of institution-alization? How does software and the statistics of sites and blogs serve to regulate the user’s behavior, roles and expectations? What are the democratic potential and the social effi cacy of these new practices? I will try here to answer some of these questions by looking into the development of Bulgarian personal homepages and blogs.

Most of the male citizens of the former Yugoslavia who belong to the middle and older generations share the experience of having served in the Yugoslav People’s Army [Jugoslovenska narodna armija, henceforth the JNA]. The army service was mandatory for all men after they turned eighteen and/or graduated from high school (Milićević 2006: 266). Material signs of this shared experience are photographs made during the army service, which still may be found in family albums, boxes, and drawers in virtually every home in the former Yugoslav lands. The present analysis is based on narratives and photographs collected among the number of former Yugoslav men of all nationalities who served in the JNA

The protests on Kyiv’s Maidan which commenced in November 2013, followed by the conflict in Ukraine’s eastern regions, have redefined the political and social relations between Russia and Ukraine, and have added complexity to the dependences between the Orthodox Churches operating in the two countries. The Kremlin’s policy has put the Russian Orthodox Church–Moscow Patriarchate (ROC) in an awkward position. The ROC is Russia’s largest religious organisation, which also exercises symbolic sovereignty over Ukraine’s most numerous Orthodox community, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church–Moscow Patriarchate (UOC–MP), which since 13 August has had a new leader, Metropolitan Onufry.

The EU–Western Balkans Summit on 17 May in Sofia – the first such event since 2003 – is one of the examples of the growing interest of the EU in the Balkan countries aspiring to membership. On 6 February, the European Commission presented a new policy strategy for the Western Balkans. The will for greater involvement in the region is also indicated by the visits of the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and the President of the European Council Donald Tusk to all the countries of the region in recent months. The activities of the EU institutions are accompanied by actions taken towards the Balkans by the member states under the banner of the Berlin Process, which focuses on economic cooperation. The new dynamics in the EU's policy towards the Western Balkans is the result of the growing awareness in Brussels of the threats resulting from the crisis of the enlargement policy – ​​the main EU instrument intended to ensure lasting stability in the region.

Po roce 1989 prošla česká společnost řadou zásadních změn - jednou z nich je proměna ze země nulové imigrace v přistěhovaleckou zemi de facto. Český stát reagoval na novou situaci budováním mechanismů imigrační kontroly a dalšími opatřeními. Doposud ale nepřijal ucelenou přistěhovaleckou strategii, a dokonce ani nezodpověděl otázku, zda je taková strategie potřebná. Tento policy paper zodpovídá tuto otázku kladně. Formuluje tři alternativní strategie, obhajuje jednu z nich a uvádí praktické důsledky, které by její přijetí mělo pro českou přistěhovaleckou politiku.

In late May and early June 2019, the contract for Turkey’s purchase of the Russian-made missile launchers which make up the S-400 long-range anti-aircraft missile system entered the final stage of its implementation. This has been confirmed by unequivocal statements from the Turkish leadership, the fact that the first group of servicemen (system operators) have undergone training in Russia, and the announced arrival in Turkey of the Russian technical personnel responsible for the system’s assembly. The first S-400 launchers are likely to be dispatched to Turkey as early as July (around six months sooner than the planned supply date). At the same time the US, which has blocked Turkey’s attempts to purchase anti-aircraft missile systems from Russia and China for years, is stepping up its pressure on Turkey; for example, it has announced that the unprecedented sanctions package prepared last year will be imposed if the Russian-Turkish deal is finalised. The crisis around the S-400 is a manifestation of the deep crisis in Turkish-American relations that has been mounting for several years. More broadly speaking, it is an element of the crisis in the relationship between Turkey and the West, and de facto amounts to a major aggravation of the situation. The absence of will to make concessions on both sides makes any compromise between Ankara and Washington unlikely. At stake are the cohesion of NATO, the present and future nature of the US’s leading role, and Turkey’s place in its relations with the West and Russia. To some degree, all this affects the position of Russia, which itself is interested in undermining the positions of NATO and the US.

This analysis focuses on three types of reforms that are being implemented in the Republic of Moldova - reforms related to European integration, anti-corruption reforms and social reforms. The author makes a comparative analysis, highlighting the more pronounced ideological character of social reforms and the increased degree of conflict, typical of these reforms. At the same time, the paper suggests the imminence of the political factor present in the multitude of social phenomena. In this order of ideas, the case of the reform of the pension system is analyzed, being highlighted the political valences of the approach. The author considers that, unlike the university education reform, promoted by the Ministry of Education with sufficient force, despite the accompanying criticism, the reform of the pension system seems to be rather an "eternally postponed reform" due to lack of political will. This postponement cannot, however, last indefinitely.

The study addresses the subject by describing the security requirements of Moldova, established by the internal and external context. It takes the 1995 Concept of National Security, the new draft Concept and the existing model of strategic planning in the field of national security in the West as points of reference. Referring to these documents, the study offers suggestions for solving the current security problems facing the Republic of Moldova. These are summarized throughout the text in the form of recommendations, which even if they seem obvious, are still ignored in existing documents and projects, which generates critical vulnerabilities for the state. // In the study, in parallel with the traditionally accepted name in Moldova of “conception of national security”, the expression “national security strategy” or simply “security strategy” will be used interchangeably. We were led to use these terms by the experience of other states, which, depending on their history and political culture, have used one or another of the names listed above to define the main strategic reference document in the field of national security. We will also analyze the importance of the name, as well as its possible repercussions on the efficiency of the national security mechanism, based on the specifics of the political culture in our country. Presenting the subject of the debate (in order to confirm the existence of the dangers generated by the formalist attitude of the local political elites towards the national security strategy) we will initially investigate why a country would need such a document.

One of the main vulnerabilities of many Moldovan banks, with a strong imprint on the national economy, it depends on the transparency and low quality of the shareholders. Many times, this problem undermined the corporate governance of banking institutions, which resulted in the accumulation of toxic assets in the system and even the bankruptcy of 3 important banks in 2015 (Bank of Savings, Social Bank and Unibank). Therefore, with a view to solving the current banking crisis from the Republic of Moldova, it is absolutely necessary to increase the transparency and quality of bank shareholders. In this sense, actions are needed, both on the part of the NBM and on the part of the commercial banks. Not lastly, increasing the transparency of bank shareholders and presenting the real final beneficiaries it is also one of the recommendations and preconditions of the International Monetary Fund with a view to reform quality of the domestic banking sector and the signing of a potential memorandum. In turn, by this memorandum depends on the unlocking of external budgetary assistance from the other partners Development. We also believe that increasing the transparency of bank shareholders is, obviously, the primary prerogative of the NBM, but this will not be possible without the stronger motivation of banks for this process.

As a result of the analysis of the situation of the Republic of Moldova, based on the vulnerabilities of the private sector but also of the state institutions, 13 principles to be followed were developed for the realization of a balanced and rational system for preventing and combating money laundering and terrorist financing. The established principles take into account the requirements of EU Directive 2015/849, the money laundering risks specific to the environment in the Republic of Moldova, as well as the limited resources of the business environment and those of public authorities. Also, these principles focus on the critical risks of money laundering and elimination of vulnerabilities within state institutions, the risks of abusive applicability and susceptibility to corruption.
