Poetry translation poses multiple challenges, due to its multifold stylistic intricacies, prosodic constraints, and last but not least cultural dimensions. Taking into account all these issues, the translator is sometimes bound to re-create the source text, and the target text obtained is a new original text rather than a translation per se. In T.S.Eliot’s famous poem “The Naming of Cats”, the culture-bound element is mostly salient in the names assigned to the “characters”, and the manner of their translation becomes a matter of outmost importance. These “charactonyms” are treated dif erently in the “of icial” Romanian translation by Roșca and Ștefănescu, and the newer version by Bican, thus allowing for a comparative analysis specifically targeted at translation vs. recreation.

In view of growing threats in this respect, the protection of natural resources is undoubtedly becoming a serious challenge, both for the state and for each citizen. Therefore, this article is supposed to draw attention to the problem of searching for optimal instruments for the protection of these resources. This is about creating and developing appropriate standards in legal regulations regarding environmental protection, protection of nature, water, air, national and landscape parks, nature monuments, etc. as well as protection of natural resources in cities and human settlements. Undoubtedly, spatial planning is of paramount significance in this matter, in particular local spatial development plans and the appropriate instruments of action resulting from them. Their significance should be considered particularly important because they are generally applicable law as acts of local law.

Through studies and research activities within the ROINFO project „Romanian Informatics” 2018–2021, numerous arguments were brought in „deciphering” the phenomenon of Romanian informatics. Some aspects were known, others not, and those that were known were known to very few people, including students. Given the results and con clusions obtained, Romania should be proud of the following: 1. In the period 1938–1939, a new science was created in ROMANIA – Cybernetics, by the publishing in French of two volumes of Consonantal Psychology authored by Dr. Ștefa Odobleja, the father of Generalized Cybernetics; 2. In the period 1953–1954, ROMANIA occupied the third place in the world, after the USA and the USSR, in the research activity regarding the “Theory of Switching Circuits” – function of the number of articles, and applications of mathematical logic in technology (Grigore C. Moisil, “CCUB Activity”, AMC Magazine, Technical Publishing House, no. 13–14, 1970); 3. In the period 1955–1957, ROMANIA designed and built its first electronic numerical computer (1957, CIFA 1 computer), by a team led by engineer Victor Toma, at the Institute of Atomic Physics (IFA) – Măgurele Bucharest;. 4. ROMANIA was the 8th country in the world to design and build an electronic computer (1957) and the 11th country in the world to build an electronic computer with transistors (1963). The article describes in detail the content of chapters 11 and 12 which constitute vol ume V of The history of Romanian informatics.

Generally, the younger generations tend to rapidly embrace new subcultures and trends, weakening the role of traditions. Such is the case of Korea in the last hundred years, as Koreans have had to adapt to various new influences, and the old traditions were either maintained with great effort or adapted to new situations. The “Korean Wave”, which is not only the promotion of Korean pop music, but also of Korean movies and television series, reflects this continuous process by shining a spotlight on both the old traditions and the new trends of the Korean society. The survival of the Korean traditions is portrayed in the movie “Seopyeonje” (1993), directed by Im Kwon-taek, which follows two teenagers, who were taught pansori by their stepfather, as they strive to survive as pansori singers in a society where Western songs are more appealing. Conversely, the movie “Love, Lies” (2016), directed by Park Heung-sik, showcases why the old way of singing will become less appreciated, as the new Korean pop music gains more and more popularity. While the former shows how traditions might be lost, the latter offers a popular solution to the problem of preserving traditions, using Homi Bhabha’s (2004) hybridity theory.

A prominent figure in national ballet, Oleg Danovski is one of the personalities of 20th century ballet. He gave the world a vast repertoire consisting of classical, neoclassical, modern ballets, Romanian ballets, and divertimentos for operas. Despite his success with classical ballet staging that would make him famous abroad, the choreographer also turned his attention to folklore, by addressing specific local themes. Thus, through this desire to study and stylize the folk dance, he brought an important contribution to the Romanian cultivated dance, from which the image of the Romanian character dance would stem. He was devoted to the idea of Romanian ballet theater and he advocated for original music for ballet, a national repertoire and the development of the Romanian ballet school. His Romanian creations are precious pages of the history of Romanian ballet that should not be forgotten, and that have enormously contributed to the enrichment of the original choreographic repertoire.

The article focuses on indicating the desired directions of economic policy in Poland against the background of its potential and current conditions. It is assumed that the current condition of the Polish economy was determined by the interaction of the processes of transformation, privatization, globalization and European integration. The last chronological determinants of this state are the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. These impacts created the threat of stagflation. The growing importance of China and the trade war between that country and the US, together with Russian aggression, are crushing the current international economic order. These processes are changing the situation and prospects of the Polish economy, whose managers should redefine its place in the new international economic order that is gradually emerging under the influence of all these circumstances. The final picture of the next economic reality is unknown. However, it is worth striving to include Polish enterprises in European and global supply chains thanks to the technological modernization of their activities. In the area of fiscal policy, instead of competing with ever lower tax rates, it is worth developing public infrastructure and institutions. With regard to monetary policy, due to the inevitable increase in the economic risk of foreign investments in Poland, it will be a good idea to adopt the euro and thus create a safe prospect for economic development.
