Strategie graczy w polu socjologii empirycznej
The paper addresses empirical sociology from the viewpoint of sociology of knowledge. Specifically, I am interested in the conditions in which scientific knowledge is created. In my analysis I draw upon the Weberian concept of sociological research, while using the notional apparatus of Bourdieu, with the proviso that borrowing some of Bourdieu's terminology does not imply adopting his social science method. I describe empirical sociology as a scientific field, i.e. an arena where a game is played out for a specific capital, the capital in this case being prestige in a given scientific domain. Social scientists are treated as players who strive to win, keep and multiply this capital. I present such aspects as the way to enter and participate in the game, the flow of capital, viable playing strategies, and effects of different ways of playing on the possible course of the game as well as on its rules. I also present a short analysis of the relationship between the field of empirical sociology and other fields existing within social sciences, or science in general.
