The article deals with the problem of maintaining student population of Physics and Mathematics teacher training degree programmes. The purpose of the article is to analyse the mentioned problem from the perspective of interaction between teachers and students during the transition to a new model of education. The traditional system of education is no longer the main institution of learning and education. Consequently, there is a situation, when students and some members of university academic staff are members of different socio-cultural dimensions. The introduction of new Federal State Educational Standards (FSES) has influenced the existing models of education in Russia. There has been a shift from the imitation model to the conveyor model of learning. The meaning of the new model is that it is oriented to mass education. Therefore, contemporary teachers are not considered to be role models as they used to. First-year-students perceive the university environment as an important source of knowledge, but not the only, and they are ready to accept the learning model, when the teacher is not a role model but one of the links of the conveyor model of learning. However, some peculiarities of teachers’ mentality prevent them from accepting the new model. The article, based on the analysis of the specific examples, shows the increasing contradictions, which lead to high rate of students dropouts within the new model of learning.

The article introduces the idea of developing a new branch of psychological and pedagogical knowledge – psychodidactics and analyses its role in the process of schooling and initial teacher training. The article outlines the problems of contemporary education. It examines the core principles of the synergetic approach. The authors provide a comparative analysis of educational management based on the synergetic approach. Education interacts with all social institutions not only meeting social demand but also shaping a new reality. Analysing the relationship between traditions and innovations in education, the authors emphasise the special role of tradition in manageability of education and successful socialisation of new generations. If innovations, as a means of changing the system, are not balanced with longestablished traditions of education, they can lead to undermining its core foundations. Therefore, it is particularly important to ensure culture-centeredness of higher education institutions as guardians of the sociocultural code of the Russian people.

The article presents the results of a one-month ethnic-musical study of the manifestations of contemporary Sorb musical culture.(Settling there as early as the VI century AD, the Sorb Slav national group inhabits the district of Lausitz in Germany, located in the regions of Sachsen and Brandenburg). The principal objects of the study, carried out on the basis of the cultural-anthropological approach, were the meaningful horizons and the contemporary state of the choral singing of the Sorbs, which developed very successfully during the Serbian National Revival in XIX and XX centuries, being today -according to the words of the composer Detlef Kobjela - "a pillar of Serbian musical culture." Again according to Kobjela the density of the network of choirs among the Sorbs nowadays is greater than the usual for Germany - The Union of Serbian Choral Societies comprises over 25 choral groups. (For comparison, the Sorb population today amounts to 50-60 thousand people, approximately one third from whom actively uses the Serbian “mother tongue".) The observation was carried out among the choirs “Meja”, “Budyśin", “Lipa”, the choir of the Sorb secondary school in the town of Bautzen, the vocal group “Wólbernosće”, Sunday mass in the town of Crostwtz. Conversations were conducted with Sorb and German participants in choirs, conductors and composers, with representatives of Serbian Cultural institutions and the Catholic Church. The principal value, determining the meaningful horizon of Sorbian choral singing today, proceeds from its significance as an important ethnic-cultural feature of individual (and group) self-identification, its functioning as an aesthetic (holiday) stimulus for using the Sorbian language. Consequently, today’s choral repertory is predominantly from the Sorbian national classic, immensely popular and performed on a large-scale by people openly holding a pro-Sorb position. In the light of the above-said, the Serbian amateur choral activities are both being admired as tradition keepers and criticized for conservatism and turning their back on today’s reality. The alternatives facing them are either opening towards contemporary musical art or - just the opposite - their repertory and performance orientation towards today’s popular show culture.

The article presents an alternative method to growth accounting. It makes it possible to express the effect of change in the quantity of inputs as well as the effect of the productivity of inputs (i.e. technological changes) on the change of GDP for all possible typologies of input/output changes. Dynamic parameters of intensity and extensity could be delivered as the output of the method. The first one captures the effect of change in the summary productivity of factors, while the latter captures changes in the input quantity. The dynamic parameters were calculated for the development of GDP of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic in the period 1990 – 2014. The results confirm more intensive Slovak development in the given period that is manifested in reaching of Czech value of GDP per capita expressed in purchasing power parity (PPS).

This contribution examines the relationship between military expenditures and economic growth in 28 EU countries between 1993 and 2014. The paper aims to verify the first pioneering hypothesis which claims that there is a negative relationship between military expenditures and economic growth in relatively poorer countries and a positive relationship in relatively richer countries. A cluster analysis is used to divide the nations into individual groups. The Feder-Ram model and multiple regression analysis with modified variables are then estimated for all groups based on the cluster analysis. The findings of the regression analysis mainly verified the hypothesis and showed a significant positive relationship between defence spending and economic growth in the case of more resource-abundant countries, and a significant negative relationship in the case of more resource-constrained countries. However, the Feder-Ram model showed statistically insignificant effects of military expenditures on economic growth.
