As for European intellectuals, war gave way to a new field of experiences for Hungarian writers, scholars as well as for artists. Writers close to the inner circles of the power and those of the Catholic Church committed to take part energetically in the war efforts of their country from the first moment. Some characteristic topics were popular among them such as the „ideas of 1914” or the strategic use of Shakespeare. However, writers close to power were less radical in the hatred of the enemy than those of the catholic periodicals who included also verbal abuse and anti-semitism.

Machiavelli defended the notion of rule by force rather than by law. Accordingly, The Prince seems to rationalize a number of actions done solely to perpetuate power. The 𝑇𝑎𝑟𝑛𝑜𝑣𝑜 𝐿𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑟𝑦 𝑆𝑐ℎ𝑜𝑜𝑙 collections contain reports from the recurrent international symposium “Tarnovo Literary School”, which is the oldest and most respected forum on Old Bulgarian studies in Bulgaria and worldwide. It was held for the first time in 1971 under the auspices of UNESCO, and the first collection of articles came out in 1976. The𝑇𝑎𝑟𝑛𝑜𝑣𝑜 𝐿𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑟𝑦 𝑆𝑐ℎ𝑜𝑜𝑙 collections are among the most cited editions in the fields of Old Bulgarian studies and research into medieval Bulgarian spiritual and material culture from its pre-Tarnovo and Tarnovo periods, as well as on the cultural and literary ties between Byzantium, Bulgaria, and the Eastern Orthodox Slavic world. The main purpose of 𝑇𝑎𝑟𝑛𝑜𝑣𝑜 𝐿𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑟𝑦 𝑆𝑐ℎ𝑜𝑜𝑙 is to publish scholarly articles by Bulgarian and foreign researchers in the field of interdisciplinary medieval studies in order to explore the cultural and historical heritage of the Second Bulgarian Empire.

Łódzka (po)niemieckość w literaturze polskiej jako trop nowoczesności

The author of the article explores the tropes and meanings of (post)Germanness in Polish literature dedicated to modern Łódź, delving into theoretical frameworks of regionalism, geopoetics, and studies on collective memory. He reads selected texts or their fragments that present and problematize the presence of Germans in the culture, economy, and history of the city, as well as the local experience of its Germanness. The primary goal of these reflections is to interpret the relationship between literary depictions of the multicultural industrial-commercial center and the model of a metropolis fitting into modern integral nationality. By analyzing representations of Germans in Łódź and Germanness, the author raises the question of how concepts such as civilization, technology, progress, otherness, urbanity, and bourgeoisie are entangled in Polish identity and national memory in the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century.

В последней трети XIX в. развитие велоспорта привлекло внимание передовых армий, которые вскоре осознали преимущества в скорости передвижения пехоты и возможности оставить велосипеды без присмотра, в отличии от, например кавалерии, часть рядового состава которой выделялась для ухода за лошадьми. Уход за велосипедом оказался значительно проще и дешевле, чем за дорогими животными. Чехословацкая армия использовала велосипедные отряды с момента своего создания, У каждого пограничного батальона была своя рота велосипедистов. В начале 1930-х гг. появилось несколько исследований велосипедных отрядов, а вскоре после этого были созданы велосипедные батальоны, присоединенные к кавалерийским бригадам и быстрым дивизиям. В 1938 г. велосипедные батальоны приняли участие в подавлении восстания генлейновских террористов, велосипедисты также действовали на территории Подкарпатской Руси, где подавляли деятельность польских и венгерских диверсионных групп. Как только стало понятно, что велосипеды можно использовать в военных целях, возник вопрос о том, как должны выглядеть велосипеды, подходящие для этих целей. В статье пойдет речь о чехословацких военных велосипедах, их недостаточном качестве и небрежном подходе военной администрации к решению этого вопроса. Исследование основано на архивных материалах, хранящихся в фондах Центрального военного архива – Военного исторического архива (Vojenský ústřední archiv – Vojenský historický archiv) и архивах некоторых производителей велосипедов, а также на литературе изучаемого периода и опубликованном опыте военнослужащих велосипедных подразделений.

The book Beyond Anthropocentrism, i.e. Demand for the Impossible? The Questions of Culture and Other Questions in Social Theory and Practice of Conversation concentrates on man and his psycho-physical condition, taking special account to its ethical consequences for the world and himself. However, the book also tries to make him leave his privileged status. The monograph is divided into three parts. Chapter 1: Culture in Theory presents essential findings focused on the key term, “culture”. Chapter 2: Culture in Practice presents seven in-depth interviews conducted in the years 2020–2021 with the researchers representing a spectrum of different scientific disciplines: Ewa Bińczyk, Katarzyna Dembicz, Bogumiła Lisocka-Jaegermann, Joanna Ostrowska, Hanna Rubinkowska-Anioł, Jolanta Sujecka, Anna Ziębińska-Witek. In Conclusion, the fundamental problem of the posthumanistic (non-anthropocentric) vision of the world is paid attention to.
