Wojciecha Jagielskiego reporterska opowieść o współczesnym świecie
Wojciech Jagielski is one of the most interesting European reporters of the last decades,a disciple of Ryszard Kapuściński, a careful observer of conflicts afflicting Africa, Central Asiaand Caucasus, a witness to breakthrough moments in history (though from the European reader’spoint of view they may appear to be rather exotic). The essence of his literary reportage is realisedin its “anti‑mediality”,primarily distinguished by the reflection inscribed in the text, and thequestions which the writer repeatedly asks: about the role of a human being as an individual inthe world or about the possibility of understanding and describing the considerable, sometimesinsurmountable cultural differences by linguistic means. Due to the use of individual experienceand the exquisitely built narrative, the writer turns his characters’ everyday life into the universalstories about the contemporary world.
