Przyszli w imię religii. Państwo Islamskie w percepcji mieszkańców północnego Iraku

This article reconstructs the perception of the Islamic State by the inhabitants of Northern Iraq, who in the years 2014–2016 lived under the rule of this quasi-state. This is a descriptive case study based on field research in Northern Iraq. It analyzes the perception of the peculiar, fundamentalist state-building process. The main findings point out that the population of Northern Iraq initially perceived IS as a legitimate organization, mostly due to their religious credentials. Over time, under the IS rule, this perception changed into a negative one. The article identifies the main challenges of the administrative apparatus and the survival strategies of the inhabitants of Northern Iraq under the rule of a fundamentalist quasi-state.

During the First week of the Long Lent, most probably between the end of 1403–1406 as an abbot at the Neamt Monastery Gregory Tsamblak gave a Speech about fasting and tears, and honest icons. The present research the doctrine of the ortodox preacher for the Christian feat of the fasting, which he systematizes and explaines in the Speech according to the tradicions from the church and the holy homeland tradicion. Indicated is the biblical metatext basis and are fixed some intertextual connections with Byzantine and Old Bulgarian authors, which suggests the Bulgarian man of letters during his early creative years as an erudite theologian from the Middle Ages.

Wybrane rodzinne uwarunkowania tożsamości społeczno-kulturowej studentów w wymiarze religijnym

The article contains selected results of research from spring 2020 among students of universities in Białystok. The author distinguished 9 types of socio-cultural identity in the religious dimension. He also made an attempt to establish a relationship between these types and selected features of the family environment. The following were used as independent variables: the level of parents’ education, opinions of the surveyed students on the level of parents’ religiosity and the relationship between the respondents and their parents in childhood and adolescence. The relationship between the number of children in the respondent’s family and the type of social and cultural identity in the religious dimension were also analyzed.

Demokracja i religia w trosce o wartości

For quite a long time it was considered that it is the easiest to build democracy through the exclusion of religion and all religious content from the public sphere. This separation resulted in the crisis of religion that we experience nowadays and the degradation of democracy. The article is an attempt to rethink these relationships. It is pointed out that such a postulated separation, the exclusion of religion from the formation of the public sphere and participation in democracy, leads in this area to the subordination of everything to the majority rule, while with respect to religion per se to a dangerous religious fundamentalism. Religion provides the information that democracy cannot be limited only to institutions, procedures and the majority rule, but must also be rooted in the rules of law, the principle of justice and values. Religion is also important with respect to the condition of a democratic state and the fate of democracy. Democracy, on the other hand, is also of significant importance with regard to religion because it protects it from destructive fundamentalism.

The positive role of school engagement and religion in the harmonious psycho-social growth and development of school-aged children is well known and documented in the literature. Thus, a good understanding of the interaction between engagement and religion can contribute to creating new strategies, in order to make the educational process more efficient, especially for children with a precarious social situation. In this context, the present study aims to determine to what extent school engagement is influenced by how children understand the concept of religion and practice it in their everyday life. The study has been designed in two parts and examines a sample consisting of children from disadvantaged backgrounds who attend a Christian day care center. In the first part, the percentage distribution of the sample was established for three particular examples of school engagement (behavioral, cognitive and affective) according to the children’s involvement in religious practices. The second part analyzed to what extent school engagement (as a general concept), with its three components, is associated with the frequency of church attendance and with the children's individual and collective religious practices

В. Т. Георгиевский об охране памятников церковной старины: Проект 1917 года

The article is devoted to the problem of preservation of religious heritage in Russia in 1917. The focus of the attention is a report on this topic, prepared by a prominent expert in the field of medieval Russian art V. T. Georgievsky (1861–1923). The report was prepared as part of the works of the Commission on the creation of the Ministry of Arts, organized with the active participation of the Institute of Art History (Petrograd). The article analyzes the relationship of V. T. Georgievsky with this Institute and his participation in the development of measures to protect religious heritage at the turn of the 19th – 20th centuries. In his report V. T. Georgievsky gives a detailed description of the history of the protection of church heritage inRussia at the beginning of the 20th century, the measures that were proposed and implemented in this area. The author of the report characterizes not only the results of these measures, but also the circumstances of their discussion and implementation. He also lists the most significant collections of ecclesiastical objects from the late imperial period. This is important for understanding what the network of such meetings was like on the eve of revolutionary upheavals. Finally, at the end of the report, he proposes some measures aimed at improving the protection of church heritage in Russia. This part of the report is succinct, but it is of particular importance. The main idea of V. T. Georgievsky is the centralization of the protection of monuments throughout the country. This is important for understanding the connection between the projects of the late imperial period and the policy in the field of monument protection and museum works in the early Soviet period. Indywidualny i wspólnotowy wymiar modlitwy jako praktyki religijnej na przykładzie badań mieszkańców Górnego Śląska

In this article, Wojciech Marek Patoń is concerned with prayer understood as a key religious practice among Catholics, an individual and communal religious practice. In the analysis of this phenomenon, Patoń adopts the perspective of the sociology of religion. He presents the sociological understanding of prayer along with selected typologies used in the context of broader trends present in contemporary religious practices. Patoń’s empirical analysis is based on twenty-four in-depth interviews with Catholics in Upper Silesia and three expert interviews. He has examined the importance of prayer practices, with particular emphasis on preferences as to their individual or group dimension. The research shows that today the individualization of religious practices is beginning to dominate; however, in the opinion of the respondents from Upper Silesia, the communal character of prayer remains important.

The Romano-Catholic Church had a well-contoured status in the communist period, which, despite the difficulties set by the govern and the party, wasn’t oppressed or dissolved, but the wealth of the church was nationalized, therefore the financial situation of the priests and subsidiaries was devastating between 1948-1949. At first, Ministry of Church Affairs and Finance begins the inventory of the wealth of episcopates, archpriestships, monastries and subsidiaries, where the whole wealth is under inventory, all the goods of the Romano-Catholic Church. Archpriestships centralize all the inventories of monasteries and parishes being under their influence, centralize all of the completed forms about the wealth of the churches and parishes and send them to the archdiocese from Alba-Iulia, the number one centralizing Institution, where the correctness of these forms is checked.

HENOTHEISM, MONOTHEISM AND SYNCRETISM IN THE ROMANIAN CULTURE

The incipient mythologies have mostly a solar structure, because the primitive man chooses the symbolic heroes of those who can be likened to the sun in the struggle with the darkness, the descent into the death and the resurrection, just as the zoolatria descends a man in death and returns it as a predator. The myths, these forms of pre-religion, influence and organize the spiritual life from the cultural beginnings of the population from the Carpathian-Danubian-Pontic space to the henotism of the faith in the Zamolxis god-god to the monotheism introduced by Christianity. The ancestrals beliefs inherited or borrowed from those who came to contribute to the completion of the transformation of the inhabitants of the Carpatho-Danubian-Pontic space into Romanian people have accompanied Christianity all the way to today. The incipient man's dualism, the lunar symbolism and the solar structure of an ancestral mythology, continues under the cult of Zamolxis, while maintaining Bendis as a feminine side of religious culture, maintains its line of continuity after the Romanization of Dacia and then the Christianization of the DacianRoman population. One can observe an overlap of monotheistic religion over the henotism and the polytheism that survived in Dacia, an overlap that in its incipient forms can not eliminate the existing mythical background, so the customs, beliefs and pre-Christian traditions coexist with the monotheistic ones, filtered over time by the mythological visions of primitive Christianity.

Expose on Empiricism, Rationalism and Moral Subjectivism in the Light of Christian Theism

The emergence of new philosophies like rationalism, empiricism, and mechanistic philosophies of Descartes, Locke, Berkly, and Hume have influenced the development of science and the questioning of divine involvement in human events. As a result, the foundational principles upon which conventional theism had been built are almost entirely destroyed by this incident. In this sense, this article seeks to critically analyze how rationalism, empiricism, and moral subjectivism oppose or support Christian theism, which offers uniformity and assistance in understanding the nature and purpose of existence. Using the analytic approach, the study reveals that, given the heterogeneous and diverse character of the contemporary world, postmodern science and philosophical perspectives have now evolved to combat the pervasive effects of Christian theism. It further shows that the concepts, practices, and traditions founded on a philosophical understanding of Christianity make up the conceptual foundation of Christian theism. It concludes that Christian theism is preferable because it offers the foundation for social development and advancement and may create a world of peace via the application of its ethical and constitutional principles to promote enduring tranquility, prosperity, and equality in human society.

Biblická antropologie v podání Papežské biblické komise (2019)

The author of the study criticises the unusual length of the document, and therefore tries to present it in short to those interested. The fundamental shortcomings of the text are in methodology: both, the goal and concept of anthropology, are not defined; important documents of the International Theological Commission dealing with anthropology are not mentioned; for some passages, it was obligatory to recall the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church. Methodological vagueness is the reason for the endless description of the biblical content. However, in particular parts of the document, there is a great deal of interesting information and suggestions to which the author draws attention to in the last part of his study.

Kurzformen im Vornamenschatz aus den deutschen, niederländischen und flämischen Taufregistern bis zum Ausgang des 20. Jahrhunderts

On the basis of the Catholic and Protestant parish register, the proportion of short forms under the given names until the end of the 20th century on the name treasure of children in three countries was investigated quantitatively and qualitatively. The abbreviated forms of the names of the Catholics and the Protestants, the boys and the girls, the Germans, Dutchmen and Flemings, were compared. The abbreviated forms fall into groups and from the morphological point of view they represent various derivative types. The origin of the full forms of the names by which they have been made, is different. The short forms of names in each studied group have regional particularities and its special characteristics. The rich inventory includes both abbreviated forms of the old Germanic and the biblical names as well as the names from the Mediterranean, the names of the saints, typical regional names and names of Frisian, English and French origin.

Nové prvky ve starém prostoru?

The article examines attempts to expand the role of sacral space through artistic interventions and other activities. It focuses on selected Roman Catholic sacral buildings in the Czech Republic at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. After the Second Vatican Council, and in the Czech lands more significantly after 1989, we can observe a growing trend towards creating and placing works of art in liturgical spaces, benefiting from the “genius loci” of the building or buildings. Thus, we often find works based on site-specific art concepts in abandoned chapels, churches and monasteries scarcely used for worship; their authors aim to revive or restore the sites. During the Night of the Churches, an event held across the country, sacral buildings are open to the public and parishes and Christian communities invite people to visit them for a tour, exhibition, concert, etc. The text illustrates the diversity of approaches within the ecclesial milieu through the example of Lenten veils, which, in different contexts, may serve as a declaration of “commitment to tradition” and “cultural Christianity”. The conflict of discourse does not only apply to the different approaches of individual disciplines, but it also divides the Roman Catholic environment from within because a broader consensus on “appropriate interventions”, i. e., a consensus on the external presentation of the Church, is difficult to find.

RELIGIOUS MIXED MARRIAGES IN KOSOVO

The paper deals with an interesting social phenomenon, which is at the same time a sensitive issue and refers to marriages between Albanians of different faiths: Christian Catholics and Muslims. During the elaboration of the topic, materials were collected through field research conducted in several villages and towns in Kosovo. The text aims to offer a specific approach to mixed marriages, especially when it comes to two different religions, and to see the general norms that arise from a religious point of view. Тhe current research on mixed religious marriages in Kosovo recognizes the period after the Second World War as the period when most religious mixed marriages took place and marriages between members of different nationalities. In Kosovo, in the socialistic period when it was part of SFR Yugoslavia, intercultural, economic, and social communication developed between the various groups living in the area. It was a period of a severe general crisis, a period when the vast migration from village to city began, mainly due to economic reasons and the need for labor, which, in addition to employment, created conditions for more significant social emancipation and modernization of society, which contributed people to meet, mingle and enter into mixed marriages.

МЕЃУВЕРСКИ БРАКОВИ ВО КОСОВО

Во трудот се обработува еден интересен општествен феномен, кој во исто време е и чувствително прашање, а се однесува на склучување бракови помеѓу Албанци со различна вероисповед: христијани католици и муслимани. При обработката на темата се користени материјали што се прибирани со теренско истражување реализирано во неколку села и градови во Косово. Текстот има цел да понуди еден специфичен приод кон мешаните бракови, посебно кога станува збор за две различни религии, како и да се воочи кои се општите норми што произлегуваат од религиозното гледиште. Во досегашните истражувања на религиски мешаните бракови на Косово, периодот по Втората светска војна се препознава како период кога најмногу се склопувале религиски мешани бракови, како и бракови помеѓу припадници на различни националности. Во Косово, во периодот кога тоа било дел од СФР Југославија, меѓукултурната, економската и социјалната комуникација се развивала меѓу различните групи што живееле на тие простори. Тоа било период на една тешка сеопшта криза, период кога започнала огромната миграција од село в град, главно поради економски причини и потребата од работна сила, со што, освен за вработување, се создале услови за пообемна општествена еманципација и модернизација на општеството, што придонесло луѓето да се запознаваат, да се мешаат и да стапуваат во мешани бракови.

Aequitas canonica and Access to the Sacrament of Penance during the First Wave of COVID-19 in 2020 in the Light of the Principles of Canon Law

Epidemiological measures during the first wave of the coronavirus epidemic in 2020 significantly affected the realization of religious freedom, including religious services and sacraments. This paper deals with one narrower topic in this area, namely, the regulation of access to the sacrament of penance in response to measures of secular law. It focuses mainly on the modalities of allowing access to this sacrament in the Catholic Church, both in terms of universal law and in terms of particular law and proposals for its formulation.
