This article presents a critical reflection on the advancement of interreligious dialogue between Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Considering the person of Jesus Christ as a common reference point provides another perspective on reconciliation as well as a means to bridge the differences that continue to hinder a communal experience of faith.

The recently deceased Archbishop Zygmunt Zimowski, former President of the Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers, which was incorporated into the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, worked tirelessly to guide and support the sick and suffering who have a right to medical care as well as health care workers in an increasingly complex world. This article presents the mission of health care professionals as a service of the various dimensions of life. This form of service strives to restore harmony to life and integrate not only the body’s vital functions but also the physical, spiritual, psychological, and religious spheres of human life. The action of God, who often assumes the role of a physician in the Bible, is the model of such service. Healthcare serves to restore life to its full dynamism and individuals to the ability to live life to its full potential. It is also a service of the sanctity and Gospel of life, which guides healthcare professionals’ special relationship with the sick and the reality of suffering.

2 Thess is usually understood as a text focussed on eschatology. While 2 Thess is not interested in the development of ancient Christian ministries and organisation of the community and while the text does not develop a theology of the spirit, it is interested in the presence of the church which is described in terms of a "family" of "brothers and sisters" with its common "Father" God. This "family" has its roots in the past, in God's loving activity and it is already in close connection to Jesus Christ, the Kyrios. In its current relation to the Kyrios the community performs already now what will be revealed to everybody in the parousia. Compared to authentic Pauline Epistles the text shows a new idea of Pauline apostleship and his role as a teacher of the community. At the same time prophetic charisms are understood as dangerous. The community's current suffering for the kingdom of God is not just a historical problem, but has to do with the church's inner nature, as such it is a clear indication of its future glory.

Socio-political developments of the last years, especially the immigration and flight of many Muslims to Europe, resulted in an unexpected increasing populism on the far right in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and France, including assaults against foreigners. Populism was a decisive factor for the election of the US president. On the other hand, Christians who are active in supporting refugees refer on Biblical texts like Lev 19:18 and Matt 25:40 in an unmediated way. The present study asks how ancient Christians understood these commandments and other texts with regard to both social and religious alterity. Whereas social alterity set an impulse to overcome social antagonisms within Christian congregations, religious alterity often implied intolerance.
