This article is part of a multidisciplinary research project in Translation Studies. It investigates the changing function of Christianity in today’s Western world as reflected in the multitude of contemporary EnglishBible translations and revisions. Focusing on the controversial 'Bill C-250’ in Canada as its starting point, the article looks at ‘Bible localization’ resulting in a rapid increase in the number of English Bibles specifically aimed at various ethnic and social groups and minorities. The author argues that despite the popularity of the secularization theory and the growing tendency to eliminate religious instruction in schools in many Western countries, Localized Bibles areincreasingly used as a tool in the construction of identities.

Publicistička djelatnost je jedan od najvažnijih aspekata kulturnog angažmana bosanskih franjevaca. Sve do novijega vremena – do osnivanja vlastitih obrazovnih i kulturnih institucija – publicistička djelatnost bosanskih franjevaca bila je isključivo vezana uz entuzijazam i pojedinačna ostvarenja članova ove zajednice, bilo da je riječ o tiskanju prve knjige na narodnom jeziku (Nauk krstjanski fra Matije Divkovića iz 1611.) ili pokretanju prvog časopisa, prvog franjevačkog i uopće bosansko-hercegovačkog časopisa (Bosanski prijatelj fra Ivana Frane Jukića iz 1850.), da spomenemo samo najvažnije među njima.

Iza kratkog kroničarskog zapisa u Godišnjaku fra Jake Baltića “Niki botanik dojde iz Nimačke ...” krije se bavarski botaničar i sveučilišni profesor u Münchenu Otto Sendtner (1813–1859). Baltić je registrirao djelatnost ovog stručnjaka i njegovu tragičnu sudbinu u Travniku, ali ni izbliza nije mogao uočiti opseg i sadržaj njegova rada koji je ne samo u onovremenim relacijama bio od visoke sustavnosti i strukovne promišljenosti. Sendtner je po nalogu i uz financijsku potporu Bavarske akademije nauka za vrijeme višemjesečnog boravka u Bosni 1847. godine vršio prirodoznanstvena, u prvome redu botanička istraživanja i rezultate toga posla objavio u opširnom putopisu u časopisu Das Ausland. Da je pri tome pored stručnih zapažanja bilježio i mnoge druge pojedinosti izvan svoje prvotne zauzetosti čini njegov putopis još zanimljivijim, sadržajnijim i čitljivijim. Sendtnerove političke, etnološke, antropološke i povijesne reminiscencije upotpunjuju našu sliku Bosne sredinom 19. stoljeća. Sendtner je iz praktičnih razloga kao polazište za svoja istraživanja izabrao Travnik, ondašnje upravno mjesto bosanskog ejaleta, i u tome mjestu i njegovoj bližoj okolini proveo najveći dio vremena i istraživanja. Tim dijelom putopisa bavi se i ovaj prilog, pri čemu se strogo prirodoznanstveni aspekti ostavljaju po strani i pažnja usredotočuje na “usputne” autorove bilješke i zapise o Travniku i travničkom kraju.

The exposition is based on the study of ancient hieroglyphic texts and is illustrated with numerous examples. The book is intended for a wide range of readers who are interested in the religion and culture of Ancient Egypt. It contains three chapters: the world of gods, the creation of the world and the world of men. Special attention is paid on the concept of the kingship in Ancient Egypt. The Egyptian terminology and the names of gods and goddesses are formed as a dictionary at the еnd of the book.

The "Book of the Gates" is the third book of Ancient Egyptian Religious Texts series, which includes the main works of the Egyptian sacred tradition. "The Book of the Gates" is an ancient Egyptian magical book devoted to journey of the god of sun to the afterlife. Its name has been given because of the gates that close the spaces between the various parts of the underground kingdom. The book is intended for the Egyptian ruler; it was unavailable to the uninitiated. It first appeared in the middle of the New Kingdom (XIV BCE) and was recorded on the walls of the royal tombs.This edition contains an introduction, an ancient Egyptian translation (accompanied by translation), images of the scenes and commentary. It is published for the first time in Bulgarian.

This modern translation of all the surviving literary compositions ascribed to Liudprand, the bishop of Cremona from 962 to 972, offers unrivaled insight into society and culture in western Europe during the "iron century". Since Liudprand enjoyed the favor of the Saxon Roman emperor Otto the Great, and traveled to Constantinople more than once on official business, his narratives also reveal European attitudes toward the Byzantine Empire and the culture of its refined capital city. Evliya Celebi was an enlightened man in a variety of ways who believed in equality, freedom of thought and intellectual debate, and found all of these things present in Islamic societies. Over the course of his travels, he wrote ten volumes detailing his adventures. ‘Seyahatname’ – Book of Travels – is a unique and important text, representing one of the few accounts of the 17th century and the Ottoman world from the perspective of a Muslim. These are not just factual accounts, Evliya had a great imagination and just as important as his journal entries were the imaginative storytelling that ran alongside, elaborating, exaggerating, and fantasizing. Through his stories, we are prompted to think more imaginatively about our own travels and journeys to other cities. This 17th-century Muslim traveler can sometimes seem narrow-minded and yet this same man can stand in St Stephens Cathedral in Vienna and be moved by the music he hears. Sometimes these encounters lead to nothing but sometimes they lead to stories which are so deeply felt, and so universally melodic that they leave echoes which can still be heard and felt today. In 2011, the year which would have been his 400th birthday, Evliya is being paid homage as UNESCO’s Man of the Year.

South Slavonic Apocryphal Collections

This book represents a study of the textology, typology, sources and literary peculiarities of the so-called ’miscellanies of mixed content' in the South Slavonic tradition (from the end of 13th – the beginning of 18th c.) – less known or unknown in the Humanities. The problem is closely related to the apocryphal collections in the Balkan Cyrillic manuscripts, as the Apocrypha are a significant part of this type of manuscripts. The scope of the study is to popularize the series and texts that fill the gap in the translation and perception of the Slavonic Apocrypha. New information is presented over the sources of translations, as well as the compilation approach of Slavonic writers, which reproduces a new version of the texts. The copies of the Slavonic texts are published in the supplement. The typology of manuscripts is supported by plectograms produced in the Repertory of Old Bulgarian Literature and Letters (http://repertorium.obdurodon.org/).

The article presents some aspects of modern religion education. An important accent is the formation of pedagogical competences in students of theology at the university. The new state educational documents and curricula of religion at school are analyzed . Results of a survey conducted with parents of children studying religion as a free elective subject at school are presented. The results are indicative of the fact that the education of Christian values is perceived by the parents as an essential element of the child's personal profile. As a factor of particular importance for the motivation of the parents is the personality of the teacher. In this connection, the essential role of the higher education institutions, which train pedagogical specialists on religion, is mentioned.

Both scientists, profane scholars and the Holy Fathers have shown the importance of music in human life, for the uplifting of the soul, healing and joy of the mind. The importance and relevance of the theme is evident in the fact that this topic represents a meeting between scientific research and the theological research, which helps us to understand that these fields of research are not at all in conflict, but are heading along a path, sometimes similar, sometimes different, towards their ultimate goal: the discovery of truth, knowledge of the cause, source and purpose of all creation and union with God. The conclusion is that the origin of musical art lies in the creative wisdom of God and that its purpose is more than aesthetic, it is the uplifting of man's soul to heaven, the healing of body and mind and the preparation of the heavenly kingdom.
