This article explores the main features of the professional training of the Bulgarians at the Imperial Novorossiysk University of the Russian Empire. The preconditions of training of the future Bulgarian state official personnel at educational institutions of the empire are determined. The paper analyzes the main directions of the Bulgarian graduates and their contribution to the political life of the Principality / Kingdom of Bulgaria.

Miasta (uniwersyteckie): wyobrażone?

This paper explores the phenomenon of university town in Poland and Europe. More specifically, the paper illustrates cultural base of conflicts and debates connected with cooperation between city and university, and methods of it researching and solving. It is argued that there is a significant difference between visions of the university produced by humanities and sciences. In recent years, this difference has also emerged in several universities which locate campuses and student communities outside the city. Such a process is a result of the geographical, economic, social and cultural promotion of higher education in the end of 20th century. Enlarged student populations should be integrated into communities characterized by much the same styles of life, modes of consumption, inherited cultural capital and “good taste”. Students are dispersed to different parts of towns and cities. Process of studentification generate gentrification in the middle of the city, but it has also a positive impact on city dwellers and local communities. In many ways, these young communities signified lucid exemplars that the city-university relations seek to engender. The paper concludes by considering some possible issues of cooperation characteristic to the university town.

The idea of the article is to describe Polish interwar ideas of a desired religious system of relationships between the organisation of the studies of law and an appropriate level of training for persons who prepare for and those who already perform the judicial service. Determining convictions concerning competences, which constitute the concept of the appropriate preparation, as well as stating which of the competences and to what extent should, according to the participants of the debate, be obtained as a part of university education were considered essential. In the paper the specifics of a widely understood social context of discussion (an increasing supply of lawyers, a “shallow labour market”, an instrumental employment relationship of the country with the law youth) and the state of regulation are outlined. In further considerations, representative concepts of the reform of the studies of law are listed and compared. Basic axis of controversy (the role of the historical items and general education, the need and range of the specialisation of the studies, combining studies and practice, the desirability of preserving a unified character of the studies) is also indicated. At the same time, it shows that it was at least partially based on a misconception (especially the debate concerning the role of general education and the specialisation of the studies).

The article examines the state policy in the field of physical education and sports of the USSR population in the early 1950s at the regional level – in the Penza region. It had the task to train physically strong, healthy, motivated «builders of communism», capable of high-performance labor and defence of the Motherland. The implementation of this area of activity of the Soviet leadership in the region involved the Committee on Physical Culture and Sport under the Penza Regional Executive Committee. The key areas of activity were the preparation of the TRP icons; creation of sports sections and colleges of judges; organization and holding of sports competitions, etc.

The text presents the current research focus of the Institute of Ethnology at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University, one of the oldest and most important ethnological academic institutions in the Czech Republic. Except on the short history of the Institute, which was established in 1993 from the previous Department of Ethnology with a history tracing back to 1880, the text focuses on its contemporary transformation since 2014, connected with its new management and related theoretical and methodological redefinition of its academic work. Important part of the transformation were three academic discussions on „ethnology“, „anthropology“ and „folklore studies“, organized in March 2016. These discussions helped to specify the research focus of the Institute, which now consists of a dominant anthropological section modelling theoretical and methodological framework of all research activities, as well as sections devoted to European ethnology and to the contextual research of folklore.

Социална педагогика и социална работа – сходство в означаващото

The purpose of this article is to outline the similarities in the areas designated by the concepts of social pedagogy and social work, by examining the nature of the relationship between them, and to argue possible directions for their differentiation. The hypothesis of the study is that there is similarity in the meanings signified by social pedagogy and social work, and even that within certain parameters this similarity represents uniformity. The methods of the study are theoretical review and education documents in English, French, Russian and Bulgarian from the recent years. The main findings show that these signifiers denote processes that help interventions; they reflect the process of connection between helping and receiving help; they develop similar forms of intervention based on an individualized clinical approach centered on the needs of people, individually and in a group or community. The main specificities/differences can be summarized as the mainstays of different theoretical scientific backgrounds, i.e. Education, Medicine, Psychology (psychotherapy), etc., and/or as accessories to the theoretical psycho-pedagogical schools, i.e. cognitive, behavioral, psychoanalytical, eclectic, etc .; as specific fields of work.

Alexander Mikhailovich Butlerov (1828 – 1886) is a great Russian chemist. He is the creator of the theory of structure of the organic compounds. This article contains unknown details of Butlerov’s life and scientific activity. Putting emphasis on what is little known today about a scientist - unknown because it is forgotten or is deliberately hidden - has a great pedagogical value. Thus, the image of the scientist in question loses its schematic contour gets depth and lean human traits, which will enable the learner to better perceive his personality and understand his/her work.

Contemporary Music Publishing for Children in Poland

The following article concerns contemporary Polish music publishing houses, which in their offer have publications for children who start musical education during professional training. The author presents this area of Polish market in a synthetical way, as well as observes and analyzes tendencies which are visible there. Key market operators are mentioned with short descriptions of their publishing profile, preferred instruments and composers, editorial conditions etc. Few examples of publications are described in a more detailed way—i.e. publications from the offer of three publishing houses: Studio Bis, Crescendo and Euterpe. In the last case, the author interviewed Małgorzata Flis, the illustrator of this publishing house. All the examples are analyzed in an interdisciplinary, editorial-musicological way.

Свободният университет и славянското научно сътрудничество (1920–1940)

The Free University of Political and Economic Sciences was established in 1920 and it was Bulgaria’s first institution for higher education with an economic profile. Its organizational structure, educational, and scientific activities were similar to those of other free universities in Europe and the world in this period. A team of provident professors taught and prepared the students for a diplomatic career, and for successful participation in the public and private sector. At the same time, the university became a scientific research centre, and its professors authored numerous high-level textbooks and specialized economics literature. Since its establishment, the Free University maintained international contacts that evolved rapidly into successful collaborations with other similar institutions, prominent scientists, and public figures from over 50 countries around the world. Among them were representatives of the Slavic countries. The cooperation took different forms – personal contacts, correspondence, mutual visits with public lectures, participation in joint educational and scientific forums, international organizations, etc. All this allowed for exchange of personal impressions, up-to-date information, useful professional communication, cultural acquaintance, and spiritual convergence.

The study investigates mechanisms of distribution of student benefits in the years 1850-1918, based on the exhaustive prosopographical data bank of graduating pupils of Hungarian secondary schools. The role of the three main factor observed – the religion, social strata and scholarly performance of pupils – proved to differ largely in different school types. Benefits concerned just one tenth of pupils, though with an increasing trend. In state schools no difference can be detected among denominations, contrary to church schools, where pupils of the maintaing church were always advantaged. Between Roman Catholics, Protestants and Eastern Christians marked trends of segregation can be observed and this applied to the unequal allocation of benefits too. This cannot be observed against Jews at that time, but they could count mostly on tuition wavers only, connected to scholarly excellence, but rarely on grants – especially outside Lutheran schools. Social criteria in the allocation of benefits profited to lower class students and those from families of teachers and clerics.

Efforts to compare the efficiency of educational systems have been part of international politics since (and because of) the Cold War. The Eastern military-political bloc organized the first Olympiad in Romania in 1959 in the field of mathematics – and the results of this competition indicated the elite qualities that might be had by secondary education institutions in different countries. At the same time, Western countries launched a survey on the assessment of mass education via IEA with the help of UNESCO. The test’s concept was based on the Bloom taxonomy, which provided a theoretical foundation for international comparisons; yet it ignored the national characteristics that appeared in the school subjects’ content of participating countries – and this was the crucial point at which assessment technology became autonomous, being treated separately from the content of school subjects taught in different countries. After the end of the political struggle between two blocs, the world’s educational systems have been standardized via building a statistical system led by OECD-CERI. Ways of thinking have also been standardized, too, thereby creating a universally-accepted definition of competency – which serves as the basis of the PISA survey. With the economics-oriented PISA survey, the involuntary creation of a global and uniform type of educational literacy has also begun, ultimately leading to a weakening of specifically national education culture.

25 Years of Change in Management Control Systems and Business Education in Estonia

During the last 25 years, the Estonian economy has transitioned from a centrally planned economy to a market-oriented, globally open, highly competitive economy. Although during these years there has been fast growth and Estonians could tell a lot of success stories, research shows that management practices are still less advanced compared to those in enterprises from developed countries. Increased competition, openness and innovation increased the significance of more sophisticated management control systems (MCS). Researchers accentuate the role of managers and their education and training in using and developing more sophisticated MCS in companies. The objective of the current paper is to better understand how changes in the business environment, managerial training and education are connected to developments in MCS in Estonia. This article provides an overview of the statistics and studies completed in Estonia over the last 25 years. As this study shows, the last decade has brought a different level of internationalization and development in the business environment and business education. The problems associated with developments in MCS, using cloud technology, business education and managerial training are the same in Estonia as in developed countries. To develop the business and economic environment in the country, Estonian entrepreneurs need high-level data processing, analytical and financial education, and practical training courses.
