This study discusses John’s community in the view of disciplines such as linguistics and sociolinguistics. Using the speech accommodation theory and the perspective of language and anti-language, B.J. Malina, an American exegete, finds characteristic traits of the group gathered around the beloved disciple in the text of the fourth Gospel. These traits include isolation from the society in the broad sense, as well as the language of high christology, that is, the anti-language. This allows Malina to refer to John’s community as an „anti-community” or an „alternative group”.

The following article deals with the sources and subject of religious teaching from the canon point of view. Canon Law Code 760 specifies the Holy Bible as the first and primary source of religious education. The next fundamental source of cathesis is Tradition, then, the liturgy and the Magisterium and Church life. The subject of word ministry (religious education) should be the mystery of Christ presented entirely and faithfully, taking the law hierarchy into account.

The Gospel of Luke is the only gospel that begins with a prologue. In this prologue Luke admits that he is aware that others have already attempted to write about events associated with the life and work of Jesus Christ. Although many have previously tried to describe the events that took place, Luke still feels need to recount them once again in a proper order and manner. The purpose of this article is to analyze Luke’s prologue as well as the plan of the third gospel presented in the prologue. Furthermore, the article analyses the criteria for certainty of received teaching which are the bases for Luke’s writings. The author begins with a linguistic analysis of the prologue. Then, he discusses the narrative plan of third evangelist and the gospel division into separate sections.

Inšpirácia Svätého písma na základe výrazu „theópneustos“ v 2 Tim 3, 16

The New Testament combines the inspiration with the action of the Holy Spirit. In 2 Tim 3 : 16 apostle Paul affirms: „All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” The term „theópneustos” – inspired by God in 2 Tim 3 : 16 is found in no other place of the New Testament. The adjective is not used in this verse in the natural sense, such as the inspiration of a musical work, but in the theological sense. The aim of the article is to analyze not only the expression itself and verse, but also the context in which the term is inserted.

Biblijny świat zwierząt

Numerous references to animals in the Bible show that biblical authors had a broad knowledge of nature. According to the current classification of living organisms and method of research used by modern zoology, it is stated that these observations do not have the characteristics of scientific research. In spite of this, they are the evidence of the clear-sighted observation of animals, which is reflected not only in the knowledge of the appearance of individual species, but also of specific behaviours related to their way of life. It concerns not only domestic animals, raised for the purpose of gaining meat, fur, hide and labour, but also wild representatives of the fauna. Bible references concerning the latter apply to the species perceived as highly dangerous to man and domestic animals, i.e.: lions, wolves, bears, leopards or snakes. Amongst the Bible animals one can distinguish these which aroused admiration because of their appearance, such as gazelle, deer, ibex or dove. At the same time, it is essential to emphasise the fact that this rich animal world is just a vivid background of the biblical story of Salvation and a tool used to translate God’s address into human language. For this reason, the knowledge of animal symbolism in the Sacred Scripture makes more accurate understanding of the pericopes possible.

Troska Ojców Soboru Watykańskiego II o biblistykę katolicką

The article presents the significant development of theological and biblical thinking since the beginning of the 20th century until the end of the Second Vatican Council. The tension between natural sciences and Biblical Studies, and thenceforth between historical studies and the matter of historical truth in the Bible, became the cause of numerous disputes, and controversies that Catholic theologians could not manage. Additional difficulties were caused by dubious conclusions of the Protestant exegetes, who stated that based on the Gospels there is only one reliable fact about the historical Jesus – the fact that he had existed (R. Bultmann). The very systematic and persistent work of the Council Fathers led to the formulation of the Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation Dei Verbum. This document described the nature of Divine Revelation and acknowledged all scientific research of the Catholic theologians and biblical scholars.

Rola krzyża w zbawczym dziele Boga w teologii św. Pawła

The author of this article analyzes the texts, in which St. Paul writes on the subject of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. In Ga 2: 19–20 the apostle presents the love of Christ as an essential feature of his nature and he suggests that this love was expressed in the particular, historical self offering on the cross. In Rom 5: 7–8 he states that the only motive for the redeeming sacrifice, which the Son of God offered of himself, following the will of the Father, is the heroic love, shown in the death for sinners. Despite the fact that in the antiquity the cross was a tool of the most degrading and humiliating death, St. Paul writes in Ga 6: 14 that he boasts of the cross of Jesus Christ, furthermore, in 1 Cor 1: 24 he adds that the crucified Christ is “the power of God and the wisdom of God”. In Ga 3: 13 Paul observes a state of humanity, overloaded with the curse of sin, as a slavery, from which the Christ freed it, through his sacrifice offered on the wood of the cross, because on it, by his own will he took this curse, which was leading humanity to condemnation, on himself. Further deepening of the theological reflection on the role of the cross in the saving work of God can be found in Eph 2: 13–16 and Col 1: 19–20. The author of these texts recognizes the blood of Christ, poured out on the cross, as the tool of reconciliation and introducing peace and reconciliation to the world.

Jedan od glavnih ciljeva Drugog vatikanskog koncila je promicati obnovu jedinstva među svim kršćanima o čemu posebno govori dekret o ekumenizmu Unitatis redintegratio. Isus Krist je utemeljio jednu Crk vu, ali kroz burne događaje u povijesti Crkve došlo je do mnogih razdora i podijeljenosti. Isusovi učenici su pozvani propovijedati Radosnu vijest svakom stvorenju i ostati u međusobnom jedinstvu. Stoga, Katolička crkva nastoji obnoviti narušeno jedinstvo među svim Kristovim učenicima.

Słuchanie słowa i łamanie chleba jako memoria resurrectionis (Łk 24, 13–35)

In Luke’s history written down in Luke 24, 13–35 the acts of hearing God’s Word and breaking of the bread are characteristic of memoria resurrectionis – the time of discovering and meditating on Christ’s mystery. Therefore the whole event in Emmaus may be looked into this sense and may be referred to each Eucharist. Every act of hearing God’s Word and breaking of the bread is the memoria resurrectionis which leads to the true faith. The critical analysis of both the historical nature of Luke’s work and the places, people and events described by the author of the third Gospel allows for such interpretation of this pericope.

As the result of a biblical revival, the Polish text of the petition of the Lord’s Prayer in the Bible (Matt 6 : 13 and Luke 11 : 4) was changed from “Lead us not into temptation” to “Do not allow us to give into temptation”, which was also included in the Lectionary. This text is correct in respect to theology and language, and it is waiting for its place in the Eucharistic liturgy and daily prayer.

Współukrzyżowani z Chrystusem i wolni od mocy grzechu (Rz 6, 1–14)

Pericope Rom 6, 1–14 gives a clear answer to a thesis expressed in the form of accusation: should we remain in sin so that grace may be given the more fully? In his argumentation Paul clearly illustrates the absurdity of this question. How can we remain in sin if we have died for it, were buried and crucified with Christ? Furthermore, a new, until now unknown, way of life opened before us. We received a new beginning and new future. Sin lost its enslaving power over us. The reality of eschatological life obliges us to remain in intimacy with Christ, to be steered towards God and determined in the fight not to be overcome by sin.

Odniesienia do osoby i tekstów św. Pawła w Regule św. Benedykta

The Rule of St. Benedict is norm of the life for Christian monks in Occident. According to the biblical index in the edition of R. Hanslik (Corpus Scriptorum Ecclesiasticorum Latinorum, 75) in the Rule are citations from 30 and allusions from 39 texts of Corpus Paulinum in 82 places of RB. More of one time are citations or allusions to Rom 2, 11; 12, 10; 1 Cor 4, 12; 9, 27; 10, 4; Eph 4, 37; Phil 2, 8; 2 Tim 3, 13; 5, 20; 2 Tim 4, 2. This is a good example of reading and use of the Bible in ancient monasticism and also help for contemporary monks and nuns.

The analysis of the biblical basics of the Holy Family’s dimension of Christian spirituality drawn by Jean Berthier shows his impressive knowledge of the Holy Bible. God’ Servant uses many quotations to show biblical grounds for Christ’s imitation according to the pattern of the Holy Family. There are a few virtues of the Holy Family which deserve to be highlighted: trust and obedience to God’s Will, love to God and to neighbor, humility and mortification. Berthier not only enumerates those virtues, but also encourages everyone to realize them in everyday life, such as the Holy Family did it.

In the last twenty-some years of Jamesian research there has been an increasing focus on issues concerning poverty and wealth. Generally, there are three main constructions in the literature of this topic. As a starting point, this study argues that this particular conflict of the Early Church presented by James is not so much between actual social groups (“poor” and “rich”), but rather between Jesus’ ethos about poverty versus the reality of the Roman society, and thus is more religious or ideological in its nature. This paper provides a deeper 145 understanding of the conditio Jacobaea (4,15). It presents a focused history of research on, and an outline of, the close relationship between the Jesus-tradition and the Letter of James, and also an analysis of the identity and cultural context of partiality (προσωπολημψία) in the Chapter 2 and of boasting (καυχάομαι) in Chapters 1 and 4.

1989, usred vremena tiranije i tlačenja, rekao je Ignacio Ellacuria: „Ono što trebamo, nije demokracija, nego ljudska prava“. To znači: ne ono što određene političke poretke oblikuje, nego što životnu stvarnost stvara. A demokracija nije stvorila nikakve životne stvarnosti. Ni demokracija Sjedinjenih Američkih Država, koja je bila aktivno odgovorna za to što se dogodilo u El Salvadoru. On je kritizirao licemjerstvo: „Sjedinjene Države postupaju unutar svojih granica s određenim stupnjem demokracije, ali su izvana apsolutno ravnodušne s obzirom na demokraciju“.

Odgovornost za budućnost i velika, moderna skepsa

Velika se skepsa širi među nositeljima budućnosti našeg čovječanstva. Odrasli mladi, koji sada rađaju djecu, radije pesimistično promatraju mogućnost da će se društveno zajedništvo u svijetu poboljšati. Oni nemaju više nikakve nade da bi se svijet mogao promijeniti: „Svijet je loš i nesavršen i ostaje uvijek to što je bio i neće se promijeniti. Beznadan si optimist ako još uvijek polaziš od toga da se u zlu svijeta ljudi nešto može promijeniti. Ta što se pozitivno promijenilo? Ništa!“ To je otprilike mišljenje mladih ljudi, koje se može čuti i iz usta mladih kršćana obiju konfesija. Prvo što me u tome pogađa jest stajalište da se pod rasterom, pod kojim se svijet tako promatra, naizgled nije ništa stvarno pokrenulo od nastupa Isusa iz Nazareta i njegova poziva na obnovu svijeta.

Mnogo glasova u koncertu biblijske vjere

U mnogim zajednicama – vjerskim, društvenim, političkim, civilnim – kudikamo se više naglašava potreba jedinstva negoli različitosti, što je donekle i razumljivo zbog snažnih centrifugalnih sila koje odvlače od središta zajednice i vrlo često vode kaosu. Pa ipak, ako promotrimo prirodu, svemir i život, moći ćemo bez osobitog naprezanja ustanoviti da iznenađujuće posvuda vlada neobično šarenilo različitosti, koje katkada gotovo zbunjuje.
