Our rulers in the Middle Ages – and not only them – displayed a particular cherishment towards earthly monasteries and did their best to support them as best as they could. However, the famous generosity of Romanians also showed itself on the outside. Let alone the Athos establishments; the Romanian benefactions there “were the most constant and numerous”, according to the specifications of the late Priest Professor Teodor Bodogae. A bishop in the Le Mans Bishopric in the 4th century, Saint Liborius distinguished himself by a life lived in parsimony and a fruitful missionary activity. He is held responsible for the building of several churches in the Le Mans Bishopric, also being worshipped as a passionate rescuer of the sick and poor. His relics were moved to Paderborn in the 9th century, to later become the patron of this Bishopric. By moving his Holy Relics, the two cities concluded a twinning deed between the two European cities, which is also held today. Saint Liborius is celebrated on the 23rd of July, in the Orthodox and Catholic Churches.
